its a film by the guy who did dazed and confused

he shot the whole film on video , then turned it over , in
sections to about eight different animators.
they drew over the frames in their own styles
then when its all finished . they put it back together.

looks/sounds like a good idea.

might be piss poor in reality tho.

This idea has been done many times in the past... I know
Ralph Bacchi did it (forget if that is how to spell it), but
anything he does turns out like soapscum, reguardless of how
good the ideas are.

I have seen it in a few movies... usually the images look
'traced', and it doesn't work out as well as intended. Too
bad, cause it is a good idea.

i've heard good things and bad, though i haven't seen it
(but want too). it's good because it's supposed to be a
head trip as far as what it tries to express. there have
been some reviews that say there's too much preaching and
philosophy in it. i imagine it's pretty good. it LOOKS
like slackers (one of richard linklater's first movies) but
drawn all over

too much philosophy? it's composed entirely of philosphy in
one way or another. if you don't want to think about big
questions don't see this movie. preachy doesn't really
describe it, because it presents a large variety of
viewpoints. you'd have to be in some pretty serious denial
to not care about the issues brought up. not that it's some
dry philosphical study though, it's very emotionally
engaging, one of the most important and inspiring films i've
ever seen. if you have decent vision and hearing you have
no excuse not to see this film.

Taxidermist: the visuals are absolutely perfect.

i agree...after a little while watching it..i figured there
must have been a bunch of critics complaining about
'preachy-ness' and 'plotless-ness' but thats what critics
do...
once you get passed the complete lack of narrative/plot
(which is explained in the movie, btw) it really is one of
the most beautiful movies ive ever
seen...conceptually,visually, etc...
and by far the most thought-provoking
just think of the concepts of every intellectual/thought
provoking movie youve ever seen..and imagine them being all
mixed together into one...

its a bit like an errol morris film...in that the majority
of it is various people speaking their mind on things they
are passionate about...

and has anyone seen the movie 'the cruise' i wouldnt be
surprised if its by the same director (though im not sure if
it is)
but its based on the guy with glasses and puffy hair who
appears on the top of the brooklyn bridge in waking life...
he's a tour guide on one of those nyc double decker tour
busses...very interesting guy...you should check that one
out if you liked waking life and slackers...

Its worth seeing, its definately thought provoking, but it
got kind of dull at times. Go when you are in the right
mood to watch a 2 hour conversation...bring somebody whose
worth discussing metaphysical topics with...

yeah..i was thinking that may be why they used the really
neat animation technique...to keep your interest over
extended periods of talking..which admittedly would get
kinda boring if it were just regular live action...that and
to emphasize the dreaminess of everything...
