I was just reading about this...
It's mad, makes the Jehovah's witnesses seem like altruists!

Anyone here ever (or known anyone who has) had anything to
do with them/ seen them/talked to them?

I got approached by them when I was in the UK. Funny people.
I bought Ron L. Hubbard's book just to shake them off. Read
just a small portion of it and, while most of it was obvious
new age bullshit propaganda, there were some useful
practical observations in there... Ron Hubbard was a
ridiculous sci-fi writer but as Church head, he's been very
successful as he offered a religion that seemed "practical"
which a lot of people in our time seem to appreciate.

I worked with a guy who was a memeber of the Church of
Christ or something. He said he'd given up all drugs so
couldn't drink hot chocolate. Hmmm.

They tried to book St Davids Hall Ceri as a charity and got
refused. They wanted cheaper rates the bastards.

you're not a Catholic. The shame of looking at porn would
have ended you ages ago. Catholic guilt is very powerful. I

Ahh, the joys of self-punishment... Well, I have never had
this problem, I grew up in an environment very low on
religion. But now we have a backlash, everybody is boasting
how they are great believers and shit and I constantly have
these arguments with people who won't understand that being
true christian means being humble, guilty and good-natured.

There was one family who were just like the Flanders family

ok im gonna post sensibly now.

Being Christian isnt about self punishment, its having faith
and 'doing unto others', no where does it say u have to feel
guilty about every thing you do. you dont have to be humble
either, just dont be a bad person. Jesus saved when he
died...but saved us from what? from having to save ourselves
i.e. from feeling guilty.

although thats just my interpretation

Actually being Catholic isn't such a bad deal. You can sin
and then confess afterwards. Its just a shame I don't
believe in God as it makes the exercise a bit redundant.

Where's Ceri gone? He starts a thread and then buggers off.

What are you talking about Bob? How do you mean we don't
have to feel guilty: we are born guilty of Adam's and Eve's
sin (the original sin) and this is why we have to be
baptised as children, so we don't die with that sin on our
conscience. And we are also guilty for letting Jesus be
killed, we are practically obliged to Jesus for what he's
done for us. But fuck that, no blackmail will be accepted
here. And, hey, I didn't mean to make this post sound so
aggressive, I have nothing against you or your opinions,
rest assured.

The concept of "Original Sin" is one pushed predominantley
by Catholics. Many Christians believe that a part of Jesus
dying frees us from guilt.

That's correct, Ceri but there's still sin in a lot of what
we do. Carnal passions and stuff... Sex without love is sin
and so on. Me masturbating everyday for the last 18 years is
a sin and so on. Christianity is very strong on guilt.

Lots of the christians I know used to be druggies or
cultists etc. they're quite non-judgmental. That said I
accept that a lot of right wing Chrisitians can give the
impression of a very guilt laden religion.

I am almost completely without guilt- Without meaning to
sound pious I don't do anything I really regret... I have
good self control. I think you have to act in a way that you
wish you hadn't to be guilty.

Whilst I accept the concept of original sin - had we been
Adam and Eve we would have done the same thing... I don't
feel bad about it.

16? You're kidding, oh well, that's the age they talk about
in books and they always go: "it's perfectly normal for a
young person to masturbate once or twice a week". WTF? Once
or twice A DAY is my current diet and back in the early teen
days it was up to 5 times a day.... Ahh, those were the
days...

I'm glad that you don't feel guilty about anything you do,
that's a good way to lead your life but it still doesn't say
anything: you still recognize the concept of guilt/ sin and
try not to cross the line. For my part, I don't accept that
anything as sin does exist, if I feel guilty that's because
I violated my own rule, not some divine rule. Original sin
always bugged me: God gave Adam and Eve a gift of free will,
a choice. Once they excerscised it he got mad and chased
them out of paradise. WTF, what kind of free will is that if
he doesn't tell you that there are going to be serious
consequences etc.

I think the concept of free will is why God favours people
over angels- angels have to do as he says, we have a choice.
The thing with the garden of eden is that there was only 1
thing they had to do to honour God and they chose not to.
Now we've got loads more stuff we have to do/not do ;)

I tend to feel that most of my "religious rules" coincide
with my ethical/humanitarian ones which is quite cool as it
means I don't have to behave drastically differently.

Ceri: one thing or million things, it makes no difference.
What is your free will about if I inflict punishment on you
for excersising it. Will means might. If Adam and Eve
actually had the might to oppose God than you could say that
they had actual free will. This way, they were more or less
disrespected and punished like little kids. God did not
respect their choice and send them to live on Earth as a
part of an agreement: he did it out of rage and as a
punishment.

Jonesy: some of my mates claimed they did it 11-13 times a
day but I really could not believe it::: Now you tell me the
same. I feel so pussy now...

Ahem.

There must be some of you who masturbated at that age. I
didn't do it the conventional way. I just used to rub the

Besides Freud talked about children's sexuality. Children
are sexual beings also. In the masturbatory sense of course.
