As if this MB hasn't been spammed enough, I am starting a new topic to celebrate my two new purchases:
Soldier of Fortune II - The Double Helix is out and I have it. The sequel to the bloodiest FPS game ever is here and I have it installed @ home.
El-P's first solo album "Fantastic Damage" is due to be out the next week. I got it yesterday and it kicks serious ass!!! All hip-hop heads take notice!!!

Didn't know SoF2 was out yet- ties in nicely with the Guns :) thread. I think that anyone who owns SoF1/2 shouldn't be allowed a gun in the "real world". :)

Ah, I wasn't either, I was checking out Raven's website some days ago and they said they were still optimising it... But three days ago it was all over my town (cracked and burned, yeah!!!) and I bought it with an insane glee in my eyes. Yeah, you have a point there. In fact, in a perfect world, the only people having guns would be army/ police, but, in a perfect world, would we still need army and police?

I think we should ban all guns. Then we'd have cool martial arts battles and sword fights instead of shootings!

Remember my quote on that other thread: "outlaw guns and the only people remaining armed are the criminals". There are 10 illegal guns to one legal in the USA and I think this rate is the same or worse in my country.

Sorry Meho. Who had the most input on Co Flow. If it was him I think we're in for a treat. I'll have to get it. I haven't bought a hip hop album for yonks.

Well, this album really sounds like a cross between CoFlows "Little Johnny..." instrumental album and some tracks off "Funcrusher plus" and CanOx's "Cold Vein". I really like it and i think you'd like it too as El was the key factor in CoFlow for me. You should also check out Aesop Rock, he's guesting on this album and also has an album on El's label and it kicks ass. One of the tracks has Ennio Morricone sampled!!!

ha ha that's a pretty good animation. I like the 3D fianle.
What I like about the martial arts is that generally the better people get the less violent they are. As a result you tend not to get columbine style massacres from a rogue martial artist or US postal workers kungfu-ing their colleagues to death.

Ennio Morriconne? sounds good. I never got the Little Johnny album as I thought the music would be a bit boring without the rhymes. I still have to get the Cold Vein.
Do you like Common?

Ceri: I second your opinion, I used to practise Karate a lot (until I got badly injured) and I know what you are saying is true. For the most part. There are still fuckers who like to show off...
Jonesy: I can asure you that I had these same doubts about "Little Johnny..." and felt very ashamed when I finally heard it and found out how good it is. CanOx, well it's simply very good. Common? What the fuck is Common, sounds familiar and yet I can't put mi finger on it.

Although this is a generalisation- you tend to find that the majority of "show offs" are found in the "westernised" karate that is probably taught in yugoslavia. There is as much of a soft meditative side to karate (in Japan) as there is in kung-fu. This helps to control the show off side of things. However, westerners don't seem too keen on the soft forms so they pretty much get sidelined.
I can honestly say that no one who does kung fu seriously (to a good level) that I have met is a show off. I think it's because the strict medative side of things is kept...

He's an MC in a similar vein to Mos Def or Talib Kweli. His 'Like Water for Chocolate' is class. Check it out. Its my favourite hip hop probably.

Ceri: you are right, of course, but some of the japanese dudes that came to teach us were no strangers to this either. But I guess, in their culture martial arts still have more of a spiritual note than here, in the west.
Jonesy: Mate, I'm salivating, I'll hunt for Common as of today!!!!

The japanese are renowned for being bad losers at judo. They go nuts when another countrie's team bveats them it's really funny :)
My Kung fu teacher and his (and my) sifu both learnt in china and the spiritual side of it was stressed a lot to them. The continue that tradition. We always used to do soft forms to "calm down" before we went home.

I used to hate old kung fu films aimed at kids like Karate Kid. They stress the morals and spiritual side of the martial arts. Why didn't they just and kick some ass? Pussies.

Yeah, us to... sometimes. Here, Karate is much more a sport of course but I was really interested in the tradition/ spiritual side so I read a lot of books....

Meho: on Common. He's real soulful without being boring and has a great voice. I have to get a copy myself as mine was a copied tape and it got burnt in my car. The only problem is that it has been re-released with one song re-recorded with the awful Macy Gray. I'm going to have to find the original version somewhere.
Have you got the NERD album? Its been deleted now.

Ha, ha, ha... Yeah, Karate Kid really sucked shit and the whole Van damme Carrier that followed in the wake of KK (although VD had nothing to do with it, but it somehow triggered a whole bunch of his and other western martial arts flicks), as well as all those dumb Chuck Norris and Ninja films were really crap, compared to Hong Kong stuff.

Common: don't let it put you off.
NERD: aka the Neptunes. I've heard a few tracks which are good. They've re-recorded it with live instruments and deleted the initial copy.

Have you noticed that the Holly Valance song sounds like No Doubt's last single.
No Doubt's last single was produced by Sly & Robbie. Silly boys.
