tracks.

Aphex Twin is World Wide. Look at how many people are on
this message board, a lot of people are into IDM. Ive heard
RDJ does special releases to Japan. People in Japan love
him and freak out to get his music and probably pay him a
lot of money just to make music for them and release it
there. He's not big in the media, but because he is so good
word gets around and people make there friends listen to it
and then they become fans too. I dont think you need to
advertise your self when your a specialized kind of thing
like Aphex people that want it will seek it out. All he has
to do is be creative.

IDM doesn't sell ridiculous amounts but you can make a lot
of money from licensing, playing live and remixing. The
main + point if you're talking about money, you don't need a
stylist, choreographer, personal assistant, manager, PR
person etc. and your shelf life isn't based on media
trends.....

playing live as in DJ'ING! argh! why don't more idm artists
actually play live?

I know the Djing thing sucks when they are capable of so
much more, it's laziness really, it's a hassle to break
down your studio, play, then build it back up.

i know it's a hassle, but it's a hassle to tour in any
capacity. i mean look at sonic youth, they lost 20 years'
worth of meticulously customized instruments and gear while
on the road. i just think it'd be cool if the artists we
support would put more effort into their performances; i
think the risk would pay off (higher attendance, better
sales, increased word of mouth). anyway, how're you doing
today jivver?

I'm doing good! It's been a really good day.

I was agreeing with you, I saw Kraftwerk live at 'Tribal
Gathering' in the UK and it's......you can't explain it
really....If/when 8) I play live it's going to be real.
It's really a cop out Djing.

I had some news today about Dj shadow Titsworth, I'll mail
you tomorrow.....

glad to hear you're doing well! i am too, asides from the
fact that i am completely ignoring my essays for american
capitalism due friday. one essay is "why is capitalism an
unfair system?" and the other is "how would you reform or
replace capitalism?" (ie: new way of life), very very open
ended assignments based on knowledge/perspectives learned
throughout the semester. cool assignment, but a bit daunting
at the same time. i'm gonna rip off nader for a lot of it
cos ralph's the man.

i almost saw fucking kraftwerk. tibetan freedom concert 1998
in dc. they were supposed to play but if you recall that
whole lightning thing happened with the girl. so things got
mixed up. the next day i asked someone working there if
kraftwerk would play and they said no cos they wanted 2
hours to set up and 3 hours to take down, and they only had
2 stages for the whole 50 bands that weekend. sucks. that
would've been their first performance in years. anyway,
kraftwerk are dope as hell. i heard one of their ambient
songs (kometenmelodie pts 1&2) monday and it surprised me
big time.

glad you're not just going to be playing records. kick start
the revolution of live playing!

thanks for the dj shadow news, whatever it is. i look
forward to hearing about it. feel free to throw in anything
else in your update =) i emailed cex back and forth today
and he let me know a few things about his upcoming projects
and a new kid 606 album.

kid 606 remix of depeche mode "dream on" -> pure bliss =)

I e-mailed cex one time when I was really drunk...I'd love
to do something but I didn't keep in touch....tell him I'm
still interested, I feel all shy.

Those assignments sound quite involved and you'll be
argueing with yourself! I know I've said it before but your
radio show is cool. People need to hear this type of mix.

Keep it up titsworth 8)

the essays shouldn't be that hard once i start working on
them. that's the stuff i'm always thinking about anyway. i'm
pretty sure of myself when it comes to political issues and
capitalism in general. but it'll be interesting to just sit
down for a few hours and write down what i think would be a
better system. a lot of people complain about things and
don't actually come up with any better suggestions
(including myself, admittedly). hopefully this'll go well.

thanks again, i'm glad you like my selections. i always told
people on here to listen but it met with so much resistance
that i'm just not going to fuck with it next semester. my
girlfriend says she'll remind them but if she forgets it's
no big deal to me. i could do without some morons
criticizing my selection of a vengaboys song or people
assuming i'm sitting at my computer playing mp3's or
something. fortunately though the people who listened
(locally and online) mostly enjoyed it.

i'll email him and let him know (i'm going to pass on your
email address that i know unless you tell me otherwise).
should be an interesting situation. hehe

The people on the Ninjatune forum would love to hear your
show, maybe try some advertising there.....lots of my
friends tune in.

it's okay to say the same e-mail, I've blurted it out to him
anyway!

I'd better go I'm getting drunk and my girlfriend is talking
about her work....Yawn...only kidding.....she made me write
that....goodnight.

incidentally have you heard his new album, tall dark &
handcuffed? it's actually quite impressive. his production
is on some next shit and his lyrics and flow fit perfectly
with the music. some people have it on soulseek.

lots of your friends tune into what? my little show? anyway
thanks for the suggestion, i'll try that. ninjatune's a
great label, i should play more of their artists. take care.

"it'd be cool if the artists we support would put more
effort into their performances; i think the risk would pay
off (higher attendance, better sales, increased word of
mouth). "

It would be cool if more of these artists toured and dj'ed
live, but being in a band, I have always cared more about
creating truly good music than creating standard,
generalized music that the masses can get into (or making
money), and I hope RDJ and artists like him have the same
outlook. The last thing I would want to happen to RDJ and
IDM in general is to become a fashion like so many genres
before it.

ehhehe.......WHAT me forget?? NEVA

i will advertize advertize....cos it's great radio and
hopefully people will be MORE supportive of each other! it's
so easy to listen, and so worth two hours of your time a
week. =0)

different value systems. some people 'get it' some don't. i
can no longer afford to care if the people here don't;
checking up on who listened (which is a very small group of
people, as in 1, 2, 3) has become just a big waste of time.
i'll try to post on ninjatune tho; it'll be funny if they're
more responsive, considering i've never posted there and no
one knows me and HERE i've posted tons (you have to count v4
posts) and people do know me.

i think this fall maybe SOME peeps will be more
responsive......i'll never stop encouraging.....because it's
such a lil thing, so easy to do.

i'll join ya on ninjatune....ehehhe....as i said advertise
advertise =0)
