Quoth,.I'm Dutch (read: ignorant) ,.what do U mean with 12
tone row matrix,.can U elaborate some more on this subject?

I should hehe... put up some of my music theory class notes
on my site...

http://mic_stutter.tripod.com

i haven't added the stuff yet... but 12 tones are found in
the chromatic scale... & based on which pattern you play...
depends on which "12 tone matrix" you can make... it's
actually just a system of numbers/notes that get arranged in
order to NEVER repeat a note :).... need clarification? take
a music theory class... it helps a lot, just like it did for
me.

You should listen to Webern....out of him, Berg, and
Scoenburg....he made the prettiest stuff....

hey quoth, i'm quite interested in learning a bit of theory
but i fear the ungodly boredom that would take place in
lecture. how's the class for you? know of any online
information?

You know, if you look in any decent bookstore, get a book on
harmony (that's where I started), and you learn at your own
pace.....and what you want...

You'll find that many very good musicians that you know are
music school dropouts....my friend (who's one as well)
report cards used be A, A+, F, A+, F.....he aced all the
classes he like, flunked the ones he could give a shit
about.....

I'm all into the modes.....

the class is fucking amazing, simply coz @ my school...
there are only 4 other kids taking it. the teacher doesn't
stand up & lecture, he lets us ask as many questions as we
have... which usually, I end up asking, "how did they do
that?" most all of the time, coz my ear has an orgasm with
what my teacher plays for us on the stereo.

the lectures are interesting, b/c when the 20th century
rolled around... most composers said "screw theory" and so
theorists tried to keep up w/what they were writing, unlike
previous times... hence a whole lot more diverse music was
written. I could go on & on, but i'd end up boring you i
bet, coz i bore myself... but w/an advanced theory class..
usually, (usually) they have you compose things, for
instance Philip Glass minimalism and such.

REALLY FUN! i would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who finds
that their music sounds too much like Afx. Theory just opens
up an infinite amount of doors for you only to discover *in
the art of music making that is * hehe

oh fuck... is it Scoenburg or Schuneberg?

god damn this guy is a fucking nut case when it comes to
composition... he would've loved 21st century technology,
instead of living in the late 1800's :(

i learnt composition and harmony out of old music books -- i
had studied music and the piano before which helped - but
it's was great to study one of those old dusty books :) so
Correct and Dignified and aimed at Private School Scholars!
