The world was blessed with divine greatness tonight. I saw
Ravi and his doughter perform at the lush Historic State
Theatre. There isn't much I could say to relay the energy
and how it felt, but music has yet again proven to be more
powerful than I had ever imagined.

the shankars are dope as hell. ravi is one of the most
important (and underrated in the western world) composers
and performers of the 20th century for sure.

i think so. i never hear people talk about him, and the only
time i ever read about him is in context of the beatles. i
think his influence and innovation is underrated in western
civilization.

the people i know - i thought he was well-known and
well-respected all over the fuzzy place!

he's well-known and i too have known his name since
childhood but it's more like a name people know instead of
his musical significance.

It was in the evening. I don't know the terminology, but
the final piece was a raga.

The two tabla players were almost as remarkable as the
Shankars. The communication between the whole group was
incredible. Lots of strange gestures with the head and
intense facial expressions that let you know they were
REALLY high on their music... the music is very spiritual
for them.

I've always liked the sound of the sitar, but I never really
understand how complex and emotional Ravi's music is until
last night. And Anoushka is pretty much taking it from
where Ravi left off. It was his last tour I believ, but
seeing his daughter, given the chance, would no less of an
opportunity than seeing him.

the tabla is an awesome instrument. considering the message
board we're on, i highly recommend the album 'tala matrix'
by the supergroup called: tabla beat science. it's
spearheaded by bill laswell and features talvin singh. it's
basically drum 'n' bass with indian instruments (tabla,
sitar, etc.) quite a treat for the ear.

speaking of tablas, those tablas used on Alpha and Omega on
Drukqs are so cool... they almost make the whole song for
me...

and yes, I LOVE the sound of the sitar... it has so much
personallity...
