u guys are acting like a bunch of retards!
rob & sean could easily record themselves taking a shit in

little bit just so it can sound like an audio track, and u

I've been posting deliberately overly arrogant comments for
fun recently. I don't feel a need to defend autechre.
They're wicked.

Can you not tell that an autechre track like track 4 off
chichlisuite would take quite a bit more thought and effort
than, say analogue bubblebath. Even if it's largely created
by some insane software, someone had to create that
software.

I did not understand this, it seems to be a verbal attack or
something to complement your original one, other than that
it makes little sense:

"dital messiah," are you saying that one of autechre's
releases that somebody here has praised was actually of the
quality level of studio processed shit? and if not, why do
you assume this? if you fail to explain yourself beyond
childish insults and sweeping statements then i assume your
finger was pointed at yourself unconsciously.

i dont hasve to explain,i listen to electronic music since
95 and i have a very trained ear for these things,so i can
feel a lot of things...
rob & sean would surely explain it to u,if u were a friend
of theirs...i firmly believe that they would admit u they
made gantz graf in a couple of hours, just mixing up hundreds
of random stuff on it....and that there IS NO concept behind
it,just a plain digitally processed random music,but u all
fail to realise this...

they make random musci at the moment, just cuz they realised
thay have a fast expanding base of fans, and that there is a
lot of newbies who will be astounded just to hear something
diferent and "innovative"(even though its completely
random)
thats a tendency i could see in confield also, but in small
hints,like tracks 3,9 - completely random music,but overall
confield is a good album
i hope they will get to their senses soon and start to
appreciate music as they once did, before they became
stars...

Random is a useful word to describe things which appear to
have varying outcomes, but all outcomes are ultimately
dependent upon factors, nothing is truly random. It's also
not "completely random" music. There's quite a bit of linear
symmetry. Autechre are scientists more than musicians,
interesting areas in mathmatics are randomness, chaos,
fractals. They also experiment in the realm of psychology or
something if you ask me, trippy psychadelic patterns,
hypnotizing. They're music is such a tremendous expression.

"scientists more than musicians" <-- are you saying that
music isn't science? science is not the same as chemistry,
or physics &tc -- one can be a political scientist, for
instance - that does not mean that they create politicians
in a test-tube.

offline w M w from London (United Kingdom) on 2002-05-05 10:30 [#00206110]
Points: 21423 Status: Regular

they're obviously not just "scientists" (as I called them),
since they make music too, I didn't mean to seperate science
and music, rather combine them, my fault maybe for a tricky
sentence. It just seems they have a scientific approach to
creating/understanding music. Pure science too which is
knowledge just for the sake of knowing, not for putting to
some use (for economic gain)

its just your opinion man..... some people listen to AFX or
whatever you think is the "coolest" and think its
stupid/boring/pointless or talentless.... easily.

I dont think they are crazy mad scientists or geniueses or
anything like that. Just make really nice music that I
really enjoy.

I've thought about subjectivity, and I've come to the
conclusion (at least for now) that since we are all related
as the same species, we must have evolved similar ways of
thinking, and there must be some universal (among humans)
opinions that are more innate (less from culture/nurture)...
there must be something about our ears and parietal lobes
that makes organized sound entertaining to listen to, of
course they didn't evolve for the purpose of entertainment,
but rather as another crazy thing the genes selected since
it aided survival.

offline REFLEX from Edmonton, Alberta (Canada) on 2002-05-05 11:00 [#00206130]

I think the same for the brain ofcourse... we just previece
it differently, like you know when you show someone a song
you REALLY like, and there are hidden little patterns, or
sounds or sound structures you think make the song cooler or
fir perfectly, but they dont recognize them or realize they
are there or care enough? thats how it is.

Who's in for my project of taking a small group of humans
(and ourselves) to an island somewhere and trying to direct
evolution to give us cool biological things like sonar.. and
blubber? It'd be hard but electric shocking power is a
possibility, the eels did it, crazy eels.

I think that's the differing nurture (one person who spends
relatively too much damn time tediously pointlessly tweaking
sound would develope a more accute awareness for such subtle
things, while other ... normal ... people do, like normal
things in life, and don't pay too much relative attention to
some pointless piece of sound...)

hey i read an autechre interview from the lp5 or ep7 era, i
don't remember, in which ae say explicitly their music isn't
random. there are random elements to it, but that's it.

however i agree ae are somwhat idealized here. i happen to
like gantz graf, i like its chaos and the disturbing images
it invokes.

i don't care how they created the songs, mostly when i read
about the songwriting process i'm disappointed cause it
takes away some of the magic.

and i'm completely in favour of artists recording their own
shitting sounds for a song. didn't aphex twin attempt to
record his friend vomiting once?

that's a bit patronising isn't it? since you have set
yourself up on that pedestal of yours, how could you relate
and therefore have knowledge of, these "normal" people?

I only got into Autechre recently with "Incunabula". I also
have ep7, basscad ep and anvil vapre and I can safely say
they are absolutely bloody marvellous.
I agree with korben that if someone can make such wonderful
music from the sound of someone taking a shit then you have
to praise them!
Don't quite understand your logic digital messiah.

Maybe if I wasn't so retarded I'd make more sense. I put all
the blame of the failure to communicate properly upon
myself. I will punish myself by eating 1 earthworm, 1 screw,

I wasn't exactly trying to elevate myself on a metaphorical
pedestal, but rather stepping down to a lower platform,
since caring about music to such a degree is ultimately an
anal outlet for frustration.

Every Mac fan is frustrated with Microsoft and the rest of

reproducing is the reason we are, and is our innate
