i'm doing some trading, and got a friends list, and he has tons of akai cd's...are these cd's compatible w/ soundforge? or acid? for example? do i need an akai to wav converter?

btw, i opened an akai zip file...and it was a .nrg file....what the hell uses that?!

they are in akai format, and therefore cannot be read directly by soundforge as far as i know.
However, there are some utils on the internet which will allow you to read the akai disk with your CDROM drive, then export the samples onto WAV format onto ur hard disc. (goto www.synthzone.com then into the akai section then 'links'). one is called akai2disk i think.
i dont see why u wud want to export single samples though. the whole point of the akai disk is so that samples are already mapped out for u across the keyboard, so ur better of using a soft sampler like Halion, which will read the programs + samples off the CDROM and load em so u can play it in cubase.
now, how about some free cdroms for my help??!

an .nrg file is a CDIMAGE file made by NERO BURNING ROM software. you will need a copy of nero to be able to use any of these files for starters, then something to change them from the akai format.

use cdXtract, play all partitions on the akai cd's export programs with samples to your disk in wav format, also sf i believe..

like grinningcat said, akai cd's are just useful when you can use the programms too...
