i'm doing some trading, and got a friends list, and he has
tons of akai cd's...are these cd's compatible w/ soundforge?
or acid? for example? do i need an akai to wav converter?

they are in akai format, and therefore cannot be read
directly by soundforge as far as i know.

However, there are some utils on the internet which will
allow you to read the akai disk with your CDROM drive, then
export the samples onto WAV format onto ur hard disc. (goto
www.synthzone.com then into the akai section then 'links').
one is called akai2disk i think.

i dont see why u wud want to export single samples though.
the whole point of the akai disk is so that samples are
already mapped out for u across the keyboard, so ur better
of using a soft sampler like Halion, which will read the
programs + samples off the CDROM and load em so u can play
it in cubase.

now, how about some free cdroms for my help??!

an .nrg file is a CDIMAGE file made by NERO BURNING ROM
software. you will need a copy of nero to be able to use any
of these files for starters, then something to change them
from the akai format.

programs with samples to your disk in wav format, also sf i
believe..

like grinningcat said, akai cd's are just useful when you
can use the programms too...
