i didn´t really care before, but since i´m getting better and better in production (at least i hope so :)) and wanna make safety clones of my masters - does it matter for an optical-transmission to another tape when i overdubbed songs on a DAT?

I'd say it wouldn't hurt.

damn that would be cool since a friend told me that it´s not possible to clone when you recorded songs over other songs on a DAT - that would save me alot of trouble with older material, cause i overdubbed a lot since DAT´s here in germany are fucking expensive (about 7-8€ ... soemthing like 9$ i think)

why not use syQuest (tho that's gone bust, but some similar do - that actually has crystalls or something, and can't be polarised?!) .. surely that would do.
If it's been mastered at a nice 24/96 rate or something, then doesn't just a data back up do the job ..
