Beautiful Minds

Think about every time we all walk around with our
discman’s, mp3players or minidiscs. We have music in our
ears, that make us think in ways that maybe never would have
reached our minds, if we didn’t have the music. Think
about the thoughts you think when raindrops hit your face on
a cold morning. If you have Aphex Twin’s beautiful
feelings flowing through your mind, the drop of rain
doesn’t seem that cold and annoying as it could have been.
We tend to think about art in nature if we have the
inspiration to it. Cars, birds, people who buy newspapers.
Everything can turn into art of beautiful thinking if your
mind is in the right state.

it's like in the movie "Pi":
"11:15 Restate my assumptions:

1. Mathematics is the language of nature.
2. Everything around us can be represented and understood
through numbers.
3. If you graph these numbers, patterns emerge. Therefore:
There are patterns everywhere in nature."

tendency's and stuff listen to afx and send all the cash we
save on tranquilizers to the 3rd world...

Well, I dunno, when I listen to "Come to daddy", the
original mix, in the street I feel like a demon walking
among unsuspecting victims... AFX is not all vanilla and
flowers...

so we can all agree to this: When walking in the street with
our headphones on, our behavior changes with the music

"Ambient Music must be able to accommodate many levels of
listening attention without enforcing one in particular: it
must be as ignorable as it is interesting." Brian Eno, 1978

not only when our headphones are on... even just having it
in our head without having it in our ears changes our
behaviour :)

There are patterns everywhere in nature."

but it's not only IDM and electronic, it's also Metal and
Rock....but there is simply not anough feelings in pop to
make the same reactions...

IT'S ALL ABOUT FEELINGS!

there are some "special" tracks... which express a very
particular feeling, which you can really relate to... a
track can be great, maybe the greatest track ever, without
having such a thing...

BT sampled the line 'Mathematics is the language of nature'
on his Fibocanni Sequence. I wondered where it was from
until I saw Pi the other week.

when i was doing alot of DXM i realized that Aphex Twin's
music could make the same feelings while trippin if you
repeated it and tripped to it again...

my point is: maybe the human brains can make feelings from
sounds, and not just one time but again and again, untill
the feeling fades of and we have whats in you cd-collection
that you dont listen to anymore...no?

i like this sentences from BoC:
"For us the whole point of writing music is to get something
infectious into the back of the listener's mind, something
that feels so personal to you that you couldn't even
possibly convey it in words to a close friend....There's a
sort of knowing connection there between the listener and
the musician that ordinary language would never be able to
achieve. In a way it's like the closest you'll ever get to
being psychic. "

well, the whole point of music is addressing Spirit
(feelings, as you put it), the whole point of art, actually,
so you are right. Only we forget it often as we are used to
seeing pop-music (in it's broadest sense, including IDM and
whatnot) as a strong social force, we fail to see it's
spiritual (sic) content/ character.

it reminds of a beautiful thing called Phenomanology, the
gut reaction you feel to a place or experience... music
definilty helps me think and be creative puts me into my own
little world like when i was kid. I just sit there and let
my mind do the wandering and imagine :)
