Anyone going to this next Sunday?...
Kinda Electronic/Laptop lectures & workshops if the afternoon; followed by a party with AFX, Cylob & the Rephlex cru DJing...
I'm well tempted - it's at Liverpool Street so it's a piece of piss to get to from here on Train (about 30mins)...Think I might go to both; the site makes the lectures and workshops sound pretty cool...

ETHER Lectures, Workshops and Party
In association with the Royal Festival Hall's Ether Festival (26 April - 6
May), The Great Eastern Hotel, Rough Trade and Sound Architecture, a series
of workshops and lectures linked with electronic music are being held at
the Great Eastern Hotel, Liverpool Street, all day on Sunday 5 May 2002. A
party celebrating Ether will also be held at the Great Eastern in the
evening.

LECTURES Sunday 5 May 2002, 2pm - 6pm
THE CODEPENDENCE OF MUSIC AND TECHNOLOGY 2pm - 3pm Software Development and Electronic Music Production. Composer and software developer Kent Clelland examines the common threads
between software development and electronic music production. Surveying the
tools of the trade, and the trends that propel them, Clelland discusses the
role of instrument design to the composer, and the role of music production
to the software developer.
SEMICONDUCTOR - SOUND AND FILM 3pm - 4pm Semiconductor break down processes used in making their Sound Films, low
tech data abstractions to 3d algorithmic journeys. Mapping out the
possibilities of digital technologies, they will identify key visual
software.

AN INTRODUCTION TO SUPERCOLLIDER AUDIO PROGRAMING 4pm - 5pm This presentation will demonstrate the power and flexibility of the
SuperCollider audio programming environment, with plenty of audio examples!
SC in context / history, synthesis examples & programming, external control
techniques in SC, MIDI, mouse, computer keyboard, user windows,
pitch-follower (control from audio in data)...Some further interesting
patches, classes and the basic class hierarchy, extension, libraries
available.The future of SC
NINTENDO GAMEBOY PROGRAMMING AND MUSIC 5pm - 6pm A presentation of Gameboy software by the Little Sound Dj. This lecture is
aimed at electronic musicians who are interested in incorporating the
Nintendo Gameboy in their productions, or want to use it as a musical
notepad.
WORKSHOPS Sunday 5 May 2002 2 - 6pm
DJING ON A PORTABLE COMPUTER 3pm  5pm An Introduction to TRAKTOR DJ Studio Native Instrument¹s Friedemann Becker leads a practical discussion on
laptop DJing using NI¹s Traktor DJ Studio.
INTRODUCTION TO REAKTOR 5pm - 7pm Reaktor: Building Real-time Sound and Music Applications without actually
programming. By Roman Belavkin - Solar X. Introduction to possibilities vs
Development Costs, using Reaktor as a stand alone application or as a
plug-in, and demonstration of customized sound-generating machines.
IMPROVISING AND COMPOSING WITH PRO TOOLS 2pm - 4pm and 4pm - 6pm Vicki Bennett (People Like Us) and Jon Leidecker (Wobbly) will demonstrate
and discuss some of their basic approaches to improvising and composing
music with Digidesign's Pro Tools LE software. On display will be several
of the original sessions used to construct their own music.
INTRODUCTION TO GAMEBOY PROGRAMING 2pm - 4pm An intro to Gameboy programming. This workshop is aimed at PC/Macintosh
programmers who are interested in starting doing development for the
Gameboy.

HOW TO BECOME A ROCKSTAR ON THE INTERNET 4pm - 7pm HOW TO BECOME A STAR VIA THE INTERNET Carl from micromusic.net introduces the philosophy of the micromusic online
community, the micro_style and the technology in use. by discussing
micromusic.net and other web based music projects, the workshop will give
an overview of the existing and future possibilities for musicians,
consumers and the music industry by using new media technologies. Become
famous - online.
HOW TO DJ IN EASY STEPS 2pm - 4pm and 4pm - 6pm Workshop led by LEKTROGIRL for anybody who wants to learn the most basic
aspects of working turntables as the most instant form of making music
without having to learn an instrument or a computer program.
SUPERCOLLIDER 2pm - 4pm and 5pm - 7pm SuperCollider is perhaps the most powerful and expressive audio programming
language available, though it can seem intimidating to first time users.
This workshop is a hands on introduction to SuperCollider that aims to get
people comfortable with it's use, and excited about it's potential.
Attendees will gain practical experience in creating and running simple
SuperCollider patches within the environment. The workshop will contain a
guided introduction as a group session, as well as time to try out
individual programming with advisors on hand. The second Building on ideas
presented in workshop 1, we will show how to create more involved patches
that use interactivity, different forms of audio synthesis and algorithmic
composition techniques.
Throughout the day from 2pm till 8pm there are sets in the Gallery from
Solar X Live Laptop, Felix Kubin DJ, Kent Live Laptop, Ned Beckett DJ
+ Projections: Exclusive BBC Radiophonic Workshop Documentaries (3 hours)

...I guess you could go to the lectures/workshops...
...it doesn't say anything about age for the Party on that email so give em a ring to check...I would've thought 15 would be fine with them...
