They rock! Their first record is god-awful, and the second
one isn't much better. Construction Time Again, their
third, is their first record worth owning. And after that,
they got really good!

i had violator (something like that) -- just found it to be
pretentious and depressing with no redeeming features! :O

1. Enjoy the Silence
2. Personal Jesus
3. World in My Eyes

All from Violator :) The whole album is just packed with
awesome synth sounds and 808 percussions.

-P

Marlowe
thanks partly to your inspirational avatar,

I am now entering the 17th Dharma of trancendental
tranquility , spurred on by the mystic tree of Bodhgaya
passing through the celestial gates of buddha
consciousness.
thanks.

om.

Depeche Mode is good for a laugh... the remixes of "Behind
the wheel" and "strangelove" are kinda fun, "people are
people" is hella stupid, and "everything counts" is vastly
overated...they just bought the latest synths cause they had
the money, imitated New order, and wrote godawful banal
lyrics... they were not very original, they were just the
only thing the club geeks and fag hags knew by name...
"Black Celebration" was their only halfway decent record
anyway... in the 90s they were just a produced product, not
much different from N'Sync and Britney Spears, except not as
cute

i thought that they were one of the big reasons that Warp
offered an alternative for home listening, creative music
without the stupid pretentious lyrics and commercial airplay
pandering....

maybe i'm too hard on them, but all the stupidist,
pseudo-music fan posers that went to clubs that i used to
know ALWAYS had Depeche Mode as their favorite... "oh man,
this club is so cool, its just like New York, I love the
music, i sure wish they would play some Depeche Mode thou...

I think Dave Gahan is a tosser
his lyrics are full of the weight and importance of his own
emotional hand-wringing
He seems to project himself as being so precious
as if we gave a fuck about his drug habit brought on by the
pamperings of his lavish riches, or the collapse of his
latest relationship.
He is only spurred on to go to further into his own
self-ingratiating emotionally self indulgent pap by the
egging-on he recieves by music fans with otherwise
apparently good taste

like most people here.

(Ubik,Marlowe excepted :)

I've read more than a hundred books
Seeing love mentioned many thousand times
But despite all the places I've looked
It's still no clearer
I'm still no nearer
The meaning of love

Noted down all my observations
Spent an evening watching television
Still I couldn't say with precision
Know it's a feeling and it comes from above
But what's the meaning
The meaning of love
(tell me)

From the notes that I've made so far
Love seems something like wanting a scar
Well I could be wrong
I'm just not sure you see
I've never been in love before

Next I asked several friends of mine
If they could spare a few minutes of their time
Their looks suggested that I've lost my mind
Tell me the answer
My Lord high above
Tell me the meaning
The meaning of love

From the notes that I've made so far
Love seems something like wanting a scar
Well I could be wrong
I'm just not sure you see
I've never been in love before

The meaning of love
(tell me)
Tell me the meaning of love
(tell me)

WHAT AMAZING LYRICS!!!!! ;)

Ok.

sorry.

he's great in that case.

my 3 favourites are:
1/ jesus poked me
2/ further revelations of my hurt & self revulsion
3/ no hope for anyone what with this dark gut wrenching
shame heaped upon me by my catholic jesus frotting
upbringing

in reverse chronological order ;D
