this was the song where i first understood the relation of
bass to electronic music. it was the late 90s and my buddy
played something called an 'mp3' through the blown out
speakers on his piece of shit truck and all i could think
was how to gain access to that feeling for the rest of my
life repeatedly as soon as i heard it. when & where was your
revelation?

hey that's a pretty good one

i think by the time i had heard climbatize, i was really
only listening to idm up to that point, so basslines were
still foreign to me i.e. i had certainly heard bass in
electronic music, but not in the form of the "bassline" as
popularized by electronic dance music from then and too this
day. although squarepusher's 'journey to reedham' was
perhaps the closest i came to discovering that feeling in
idm. tbh if i'm listening to idm, last thing i want to hear
are basslines and instead want a disorganized mess.

is this one of those threads where you ask the question in
the thread and answer it in the title

i'm not answering your question in a thread which YOUR
answer gets to be the title of the thread doesn't matter if
it's your thread if you're going to say you can because it's
your thread it doesn't matter

climbatize is a banger, love the bongo rolls.... that
distorted top end when the bass comes in just b4 too

listened the fuck out of Fat of the Land aged 11,getting
stoned and pissed with my mates in camps made out of
cardboard nicked from nearby factories

checking out all the tunes Liam sampled is great too... like
... HORN TRACK ! for this one

i like amo bishop roden and iambic poetry 5 very much if i
want an idm track i can feel. i think i only have 2 tastes
when it comes to electronic music: scattered broken idm and
dance music. i'm not particularly fond of when both begin to
merge or crossover, but i kind of like vision, which is
noisia's label that does a pretty good job at bridging the
gap between sound design & predictability for me. i went to
a show a few years back for some of their artists and my
roommate at the time got so hammered they wouldn't even let
him back in after the opener, so i enjoyed the show by
myself and found him basically passed out in a trash can
after.

also it basically just meant sampling different records (not
knocking Liam at all, he was ace at it)

(what i mean is that the stuff you sample sets the tone for
it.... so if you sample different stuff its a different mood
and the stuff you wanna sample is the stuff you are
listening to and that can and possibly should change in that
tender of age of 20 - 20something what the fuck am i talking
about.)

it's the only thing (apart from "girls") that is worth
listening to after 1994

what up pete

girls is the shit! i'm gonna listen to that right now! i do
find myself listening to older prodigy more than newer
prodigy. like for example, something about the
mixing/mastering on invaders must die doesn't sit well with
me. or maybe it's because it came out around the time
pendulum was big and i feel like prodigy shifted more
towards that sound, like they were trying to stay relevant
instead of innovate and i never really liked the sound
palette of that era

i love pendulum and invaders must die is great. i think
you're right about liam. fat of the land is fucking awful
its like be here now by oasis. after always outnumbered
which was a sham, invaders must die was a trry hard but
didnt get there. the day is my enemy is pretty much the
same. oh well. we will always have experience and gilted.
