it's a good time to mention, like, his bendy FM twonks, the
bassline backbone, then we have an acid synth like three
octaves up that's the FM twonks but contemplated anew and
going off in other directions, then those pads and strings.
and the sense of pitchbend. i didn't realize aphex fucked
with the master tune on his synths, instead i spent years
learning to be very precise with pitchbend to achieve, you
know, whatever... and i think, yes, he does that manually
too. and having spent so much time on it i know a great ear
for detuning when i hear it

and despite all this i had no idea photodementia was him.
that was so totally different i was leaning towards
"squarepusher fucking off the rails on drugs" or "just some
guy on a wicked ketamine speedball tip or something" and no
that was also dave and it was so contrary to what i knew as
his style i very confidently never even suspected it was
him

i'm listening to this just now, and the track pre-selected
(madrid) is like, yes, there's the bendy FM twonks and the 3
octaves up and the pads and all, but that harpichord
[sample? karpluss-strong? probably modular i guess?] is a
bit new

then the next one, charity, that's, oh, there are bits of it
all still but i can only pick them out because i'm listening
for it

the first minute of bruge out of context, had i still not
known, would have me saying "oh that's photodementia" but
then 1:20 or so he's switched over to dave monolith
imitating aphex and it's very clearly dave because only dave
imitates aphex like that.

this is a good thing. at 2:20 of bruge, it's like: ok, yes,
this is what i mean. aphex would never tune it like
that

overall this is nice so far, what i appreciate has not been
abandoned but he's not just sitting around and doing it over
either

does anyone else dance on treadmills? i really wish i had
one. it's probably better i don't because some of that was
starting to get too advanced for my own safety. stopping and
letting it carry me back a moment. ah well

lol sounds really unsafe bet theres tons of clips of peeps
losing control on a treadmill all over the net.

didit know he was photodementia either.
nor about his tuning, but i know tunes when i hear them.

spun some on easter, family and friends enjoyed.
