1.5 How to with John Wilson (documentary/essays)

except David Gueta, which is an acquired taste (for
sophisticated, monocle clad people and rodents) everyone
should watch these.

i hope dariusgriffin likes How to with John Wilson. maybe
she thinks the way it seemingly goes offscript is too
scripted, though

Oh fuck Succession. Its a slow motion version of The Thick
Of It for Americans still titilated by the occasional F
word.

Odious and boring.

typing in the other fav movies thread I thought about True
Detective: how is the latest Jodie Foster season compared to
the previous ones ?

I consider another shot at all the seasons after the
immaculate S01.

i'm in a reading group 'introduction to Marxism, by Mandel'

i'm 'the intersectional guy'

i read very poorly the first meeting. but that was okay,
because i'd pretty much only read the first chapter of the
prescribed five. and that's all we went over, because these
peope can't stop talking about socialism

The reading group sounds good. Mandel wrote the
introductions to the Penguin editions of Capital.

You know, Marxist-Leninists invented intersectionality

"Formerly, the national question was usually confined to a
narrow circle of questions, concerning, primarily,
"civilised" nationalities. The Irish, the Hungarians, the
Poles, the Finns, the Serbs, and several other European
nationalities-that was the circle of unequal peoples in
whose destinies the leaders of the Second International were
interested. The scores and hundreds of millions of Asiatic
and African peoples who are suffering national oppression in
its most savage and cruel form usually remained outside of
their field of vision. They hesitated to put white and
black, "civilised" and "uncivilised" on the same plane. Two
or three meaningless, lukewarm resolutions, which carefully
evaded the question of liberating the colonies-that was all
the leaders of the Second International could boast of. Now
we can say that this duplicity and half-heartedness in
dealing with the national question has been brought to an
end. Leninism laid bare this crying incongruity, broke down
the wall between whites and blacks, between European and
Asiatics, between the "civilised" and "uncivilised" slaves
of imperialism, and thus linked the national question with
the question of the colonies. The national question was
thereby transformed from a particular and internal state
problem into a general and international problem, into a
world problem of emancipating the oppressed peoples in the
dependent countries and colonies from the yoke of
imperialism."

I haven't watched any 2023 series, much like the last 3
yXmas! Nothing.

Probably *because* Marxist leninsts sprayed their
unfortunate scent over Hollywood scripts like mange riddled
feminist crybaby skunks.

Merry xmas!

Big is a valuable and important member of the xlt community.
I like him, here anyway.

Buy I try to picture him as a roommate. Coming home after a
long day's work, setting the keys down-- and hearing a
podcast through the door about Eminem's white privilege.
Again: Eminem's white privilege. A podcast. And he's
actually listening to it.

*Is* that worse tha him listening to mein kampf? It's
really, really close. Not joking, in terms of roomate
compatibility. It's at least as bad as toto- africa.

top that. First Fargo series was so good too.

good

real socialists are fine, anyway. so many are unbearable,
though. or i guess many good ones are that, too. like you.
not trying to be mean; i am, too, like wolfy accurately
describes

i think several will have come up with intersectionality. i
imagine marroons did too, for instance. they just don't have
their ideas republished

this topic looks like i'm bragging about how many series
i've seen (regarding russelldust). yeah, fargo was best in
the beginning

Big, you get home, put down your keys, and are immediately
hit with 120 decibels of smell from Wolfslice's shoes and
socks that are left at the entryway. Then you smell the fish
smell from his frozen fish sticks that he's once again
heated in the microwave, inundating the apartment with soggy
microwaved fish smell.

His bedroom door is closed, but you can hear every word of
the Joe Rogan podcast featuring his guest, Jordan Peterson,
interspersed with the bullet sounds of some mindless shooter
videogame. You think of the piss jugs on Wolfslice's bedroom
floor and feel ill.

Looking down, you see that God has placed a hunting knife in
your hand. You know what She wants you to do.

what do you do big what do you do

I'll own the shoes in the doorway. My wife HAS sprayed them
once or twice.

While I haven't eaten fish sticks since I was a kid, they
are a good metaphor for my general toddler's palate.

So far so good, but believe it or not, I do not particularly
like Rogan or Peterson. I don't hate them either, I guess,
but I never listen to them. If Rogan had the Coen Brothers
on or something I might tune into just that one episode. My
political guy is Bill Maher.

What you'd really hear through the door is the wife and I
getting caught up on about 150 episodes of One Piece. I'm
also rewatching Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington's On
Cinema.

I don't really play many shooters. Just a bit of Team
Fortress 2, but not too often. Here is my 2023 Steam Year In Review.

My most annoying roommate habit would be stepping outside
regularly to smoke. I don't smoke inside.

I'm turning 40 in a few days and want to cut back cigs and
stop drinking. I've proclaimed this publicly, we'll see how
it goes. I can't do the vape thing.. it's like sex with a
condom on. Actual smoke or bust.

Otherwise I would keep my noise down and wouldn't eat your
food. I'd install a bidet on the toilet. I'd cook meals. My
wife does all the dishes so that's taken care of. Aside from
the shoes in the doorway it probably wouldn't be so bad.
Big, spare me.

If I was a dick to big I apologize.

To not talk to you in the 3rd person, I'll address
directly:

I meant what I said that you're an important member of the
xlt community. More than me. If I felt I had to leave so you
could thrive, I'd do so. And you're a good person. However
misguided or counterproductive I feel your *solutions* are,
you're at least trying to make the world a better place.
Attending meetups, focusing on problems, these are good
things. I just can't bring myself to agree with where you've
ultimately landed. It doesn't mean anything beyond one man's
point of view, for either of us.

My solution is bad too. I would simply be to reduce the
world's population by 2/3rds, because almost every problem
can be traced back to just "there's too many of us." I get
how nihilistic and cynical my view is. But still 70 years
ago, there was more individual freedom and autonomy, and the
cows and chickens could spread out on an actual farm. It's
fucked up now.

Anyway the eminem podcast IS the most stupid thing I've ever
heard of, it IS. It's a dogshit philosophy and it's done you
no good. It's racist and it deserves to be made fun of,
thoroughly. But I can do it with some respect for the man
listening.

and ofc

not everything was great for everyone 70 years ago. This is
more an american perspective here.

It was good enough in this country that people were
comfortable having like 10 children a pop.

i liked it a lot

for some reason, i couldn't get into the second half of the
last series. i couldn't get into the story anymore, not sure
if that was on me or the series. could really be they ran
out of interesting things to say (like that story with the
brother was top tv, but also it's was artificial drama to
come up with said brother)
