every time my mom and i speak, it's arguments. that financially, i am essentially at: i am trying not to fucking lose everything again. then my mom gets all up in my shit and gives me shit, why are you not handling your shit better? and fuck off you contribute nothing except verbally beating me up over not having a more functional life so i've her blocked for a few weeks, essentially, like "we just argue, i'll come back when my life is less shit and we can actually have a conversation" and things have just been getting worse. then it's her birthday and i have to at least say hello. and it is: yes, i just moved back to michigan, i'm in a managed care facility and i have alzheimers, and then we're arguing again. my sister had to know at least some of this before -- convenient timing -- having her squared away over there JUST BEFORE it is mum's birthday and yes, things are shit, but i still have to call. and then i find all that out then. and come visit for christmas and they know i cannot afford it. |

she's completely with it for most parts, but it's kind of like how the dialog in the big lebowski gradually snowballs as the dude is cobbling together increasingly more bits of words that other people said earlier in the movie [and botching them for flavor]. that despite being mostly herself, things she has been told repeatedly like "as much or as little help as i need" and so it's like i'm talking with my mom and suddenly she's like a glitched out sampler spitting out a TV ad. that i said "managed care place" and she's all "it's not managed, care, it's an INDEPENDENT LIVING" etc. and my own sampler brain pulled back Tony Soprano yelling the same fucking thing. this shit is real, that corny garble ...but then, later, i'm like "... at the managed care pl- or whatever the heck you call it" ...and day later she's like "...oh this nursing home or whatever" i could tell she actually understood now; wasn't just parroting someone else's thing. she was riffing on what i said earlier. realized she'd been parroting someone else's thing, and fuck off with that garbage gosh, i could have some fun with this |

i'm just thinking. all of these really suck - retirement community - independent living - managed care - senior home the problem is that these names are all trying so hard to conceal reality that they give themselves up straightaway, and they are fucking awful, tortured abuses of wordery i want to help. you need to acknowledge the reality, but laugh about it. so i think you don't want to be all like "this independent living facility," you want to be all "this freaking q-tip jar" like my mom sarcastically called it the worst one possible -- NURSING HOME -- just to underscore how much fuck off with retirement care whatever the q-tip jar. that's what i'm naming my old people living place thing |
