the cellar.. why is it necessary to install a 1,5m LED light EVERYWHERE? for 100 years a single 40 to 60 watt bulb was perfectly fine.
yesterday the landlord had some electrician replace all sockets with 1,5m LEDs instead of just replacing that one burnt out old fashioned lightbulb.
now i have to put on welder goggles to save my eyesight and hurry to not get a sunburn when i fetch something from the cellar.
there should be safety restrictions how bright a light is allowed to be, but i cannot find any online. cellar is now bright as diving into the sun head first. its even worse than the staircase now, which took some time getting used to.

oh, similar rant for... fucking auto-adaptive halogen hi-beams [during daytime!] and it's like "they auto-detect cars so as not to blind people" and if your car headlines feel blindingly bright to a pedestrian at the blinding peak of a sunny day at 3pm something has been overdone here

Putting on welding goggles to go into the basement in Germany somehow feels very Rammstein.
Or Buffalo Bill in silence of the lambs

I don't like the concept of regulating lightning in indoor spaces in a private residence. Vote No here.
But motherfuck some of these hi beams on these cars in 2023.

the sale of normal incandescent bulbs was recently banned, which is, i have to say, kind of like: fuck you. i vastly preferred the warmer tones. the three-stage dimmer lamp i use to heat up mostly cooked vape carts. so i'm inventorying the bulbs i have left and i find one i assumed was incandescent is actually... a bluetooth-enabled smartbulb? i got this lamp off the curb and i've had this shit in my house for months and i didn't even know. and i thought it was incandescent. explains why it never heated carts well. but end conclusion is: 1) i think i need to take a deep breath there are LED bulbs worth a shit out there 2) this smart home shit is out of control, i get a lamp off the curb and someone could have hacked the light bulb for months
re: "smart" car headlights: cost! like, yes, let's take something that only cost a hundred quid or two to replace and turn it into some poorly thot-out component that costs thousands to replace. and can be nudged aside to steal a prius with a modified USB stick [fixed now, but really real]

is rivian a thing anywhere to anyone? if those trucks get so much as hit with a golf ball it costs $50k to fix. if any electric car is so much as hit with a golf ball they replace the entire battery array because they've no way to know if not doing so will lead to catastrophic explosion, even if they actually know how the fuck to work with this particular model of EV. there's a giddy trend of turning the now-capable in-dash computers into personal data hoovering assfuck. then the car is legally required to have $5k of backup camera hardware that beeps and slams on the brakes and gives you whiplash as you try to back out of a garage that is somewhat small
~ adds '* i miss incandescent bulbs' a few pages after '* i miss my 92 civic terribly' ~

not missing the old bulbs at all, there is lots of models around that look and feel exactly the same,
which have no brains at all and save plenty of €´s, due to using only 2-5w instead of 40-60w. the old bulbs have been banned for good like ten to fifteen years ago over here and can still be found occasionally in old stocks and after a few early hiccups with toxic (waste) lamps and costy, slow starting lamps
(that however did amortise) it turned out just fine. real improvement. welcome change.
