per thad's request

Autechre is the best IDM, so

*3 SLEPT ON autechre tracks that will BLOW YOUR
MIND*

[thumbnail me with my mouth wide open, mind blown]
1. Osla for N (L-Event EP, 2013)
2. Frane Casual (NTS Sessions 4, 2018)
3. ClnChr(Japanese Bonus track for Move of Ten,
2010)

all of these Autechre tracks are devoid of humanity in the
best possible way. Alien jams.

But I like a more human touch sometimes too so,

*3 SLEPT ON IDM releases that sound human, and will BLOW
YOUR MIND*

[thumbnail me with my mouth wide open, mind blown]

1. Xploding Plastix- Treated Timber Resists Rot (album, 2008)
2. Proem- Socially Inept (album, 2004)
3. Ovuca- Wasted Sunday (album, 2001)

these are some of my all time favorites and I love them very
much.

I doubt I ever evangelized a piece of art as hard as I did
Proem-Socially Inept in 2004. I would have been age 20 at
the time. Literally sprayed all of my friends and co-workers
with it. To this day some still mention Proem to me as a
favorite in a way they never would with Aphex etc.

I'm sure I was annoying, but somehow-- it was far LESS
annoying to show someone new music in 2004 than it is in
2023. Too much shitty social media competition now, I guess.

chanelling
chaneling
channaling
channelling (google STILL has this underlined as wrong)
epicmegatrax:

that, I was watching a woman push a stroller today and I
thought about Thad's request to make an IDM thread, and no,
let's backtrack. I was like
that, my father always said thad taste was more for punk
rock and that he was, wait let's back track again,
that, when I was a child I listened to Offspring. There was
some careful synthwork that I've tried to recreate
here, but I realized the woman wheels sounded LIKE
my father

i'd never listened to a full proem album before, and this is
nice, comfy music. reminds me of stuff like dntel a bit.
ovuca i only really know onclements but i do like that.
xploding plastix i only knew the name but i'll give that
album a go, tho the first track's synth sounds a bit, like,
twee or sugary or something. not sure yet

ae though, god damn that is a hard question, some nice
choices there. i'm gonna hold fire on a top 3, spark a joint
and get back to ya

yo belb if you didn't get to the track
little a on socially inept, I recommend that
specifically

(I said it was my most evangelized record in 2004, still
doing it to this day).

I just love the way the melody comes in. So well produced,
unassuming, unpretentious, neon signs shining through
raindrops in your hovercraft music. Everyone's taste is
different, but this one hits me properly every single time.
There's a few others on that album that do the same, but I
won't be annoying enough to point them out as well.

liitle_a didn't really set my world alight but yr right
about the unassuming melody, just creeps up on ya. i've
listened a couple of times now and that shit sticks around
in yr brain. taken as a whole tho, the album is a little bit
wallpapery, sorry to say

ae slept on top 3
- iera (untilted, 2005)
- elyc6 0nset (elseq 2, 2016)
- perlence subrange 3 (quaristice.quadrange.ep.ae, 2008)

No need to apologize for taste! I get that he's wallpapery
and would actually say the same thing (if wallpapery means
kinda generic and accessible). He's just a GOOD wallpaper,
makes relaxing melodies and nice airy beats. Proem is very
good, but he's not busting any sonic boundaries.

Iera is such a banger.
Elyc6 0nset seems to be one of their more discussed tracks,
so I'm not sure it's slept on. I see posts about it in
r/autechre pretty frequently and it's been brought up
specifically in the last few Sean AMAs on Twitch. Fun fact:
It's a sean track and he made it in one day. (tho, who knows
how long their patches took to make).

i suppose elyc6 0nset is one for the heads, i very rarely
venture as far as the subreddit so it's hard to know what's
slept on outside of this little bubble. one day, christ
that's quite something. sometimes the flow just takes over
and if he had some ideas brewing, and some sketch versions
down... wow, though

actually this impressed me most since drukqs,
really, simply for: my god, this is so fucking fast, but i
can follow it all so easily. ace gating and the bendies on
the pitch keep you on course. i have to be careful with this
song when exercising because if i'm not it'll make me injure
my still-healing foot. time dilation. opening your eyes and
thinking the song was a lot longer than it was etc

i found a whole series of albums named "SPEEDBALL" and
"SPEEDBALL Z" and then "SPEEDBALL EVOLUTION" and the track
names are funny as shit but it's all mostly garbage, except
for the track "gravy boat" where they clearly meant "gravy
train" but they got the translation wrong, and they've very
seriously done it up as a black and white mickey mouse
cartoon boat instead of a train...

...then that one is from DRS, and i've whittled the ~150
tracks from that down to 20 that are mustard, and glacia's
one of the best of those. so there's a lot of crap you have
to sift through, you can let youtube play it all day and get
nothing but shit

meanwhile autechre, there's none of that. either you throw
the whole album out or it's one of their better releases

gantz graf video. can we talk about this? i never saw that
shit on acid. how do i get those graphics on acid?

i never had a steady source of acid -- so maybe i never took
enough at once, or didn't try in the right way -- which is
my question, i guess. people say "oh wow that's so accurate"
and i never saw that shit? and is this why i dislike a lot
of autechre, because i don't see a bunch of spazzing 3D
shapes?

i mean, when i got synaesthesia at all, it was like

- LAZY_TITLE ~ floating in a bright neon green void.
then sense that i'm traveling towards the center of it
forever. as the beat fades in, i see a dot off in the
distance, and as i get closer i see it's a pagoda that looks
like a mandlebulb 3D fractal. it's rotating to the beat -- i
don't even think i have to describe how; it's pretty clear.
then i'm inside it by the track is going

- LAZY_TITLE ~ first clark song i'd ever heard, and also
the only time i've ever done acid and mushrooms at once. my
boyfriend actually found it and put it on while i was just
lying down on the futon because he thought i'd like it, and
i did. it was like just a screen full of metallic bits at
first, like brillo density but much more intricate, then
when the track opens up later in it's like i'm in some giant
warehouse full of giant moving swinging metal things and a
beam of light is...

LAZY_TITLE ~ same trip as previous, i saw The Grid.
literally, like, a graph paper lattice that stuff was
growing off of. seen this in a lot of visual art and suspect
i nailed it

theme for sudden roundabout, one hit of acid -- a lovely
morning walk, broken up into soundblaster soundfont
hexagons

but gantz graf. nothing. i find it annoying, in fact

LAZY_TITLE ~ concentric tree rings rotating at different
rates with glowing gold middle earth glyphs representing the
sounds.

this song used to be a joke to me, i put it on simply
because it's kind of, i dunno, techno's inna godda da
vida... but this song is like, i dunno... life,
consciousness, stripped down to core rhythms. you'd do well
to maintain pranayama breathing throughout the whole thing,
perhaps while jogging

...then i was listening to it again about a year ago, and
wow, wow, why am i getting such a strong mental image of
rotating concentric circles of glowing middle english
glyphs

it actually took me a few days to realize that was a visual
i'd had on acid in 2010. then the rest came back in a flood:
why yes, i was sitting in that comfy brown chair i used to
have. and that was the same trip where i figured out how to
recover a lost train of thought via re-thinking the same
things over again, and...

point being, i feel like i have at least some clue, but is
the gantz graf vid full of shit?

i guess i should clarify -- long ramble, but if you just
read the last sentence of the previous post, that is a
genuinely serious question. that before bitcoin existed,
2006, someone uses a GPU's matrix banks to do convolution
reverb and i think, "if i can see music in my head, that's
more processing power on music, and that means better music"
a few months later i'd gotten so deeply involved with it
that i managed to legitimately walk into a tree. amidst all
this i'm introduced to psychedelics, and i obviously want
synaesthesia out of this; i want it badly. but it actually
proved rather illusive and i more credit acid for taking my
existing efforts up a level. but then there are some drug
visuals that are pretty unarguable and much better

the bottom line, i suppose, is i was all "i want to see this
gantz graf thing for myself" and i never got shit out of it.
so i'm curious for... i guess you could almost call it a
technical perspective on the matter?

nevermind. doubt anyone's following anyways
