yesterday night, germany shut down the last remaining 3
reactors and is now free from nuclear energy.
goodbye and good riddance...

yeah, not happy about the coal either. coal lobby sadly is
strong too
especially where i live, so i marched against both of it as
you know.
but you know bavaria had the chance to pull its weight in
this issue aswell.
the end of nuclear energy was planned 21 year ago,
but bavaria chose NOT to build wind energy,
not only but also largely and openly for aesthetic reasons.

It wasn't for naught. The German reactors provided an
interesting setting and time travel mechanic to the netflix
show Dark!

I'm good with the nuclear reactors in seismically stable
areas (US desert region and such), but it's a bad idea to
put them in populated areas.

those are fair arguments in the discussion.
though the chances of a catastrophe are very slim,
the outcome would just be too disastrous,
especially in a crowded area as europe.
imagine losing an area as big as a state for thousands of
years. or the human casualties that might come with it.
physics and engineers usually say, reactors are built
safely
and blame human errors in many cases.
that is just a factor we cannot ignore either.
however i understand that people take the risk.

im glad i live just outside the critical evacuation radius
for the reactors in belgium.

people often say nuclear energy is the most reliable energy,
but half of frances 60 plants had to stop, because the
rivers ran dry.
imagine they hadnt stopped them in time, thinking, we´re
good, its just gonna be fine running a little low on cooling
water.

another is the still unsolved problem of about now 400.000
m³ of nuclear waste, from germany´s reactors today. of
course opposed to climate change we have about a million
years to find a solution ^^
a couple of more years of them running wouldnt have made a
real difference though. while every other form of fossils
dropped in numbers over the past two decades, renewables now
make half of germanys energy production, part of of because
we switchd funding from nuclear to renewables. if you
withdraw the funding from all energy prices, renewables are
now the cheapest on the market, while nuclear is by far the
most expensive one. if you put in the costs for the nuclear
waste, those numbers change even more dramatically (by four
times).

sorry for the long post btw

I wonder what biggiesmartpants has to say about this.

Coal sucks imo. I saw a clip you can create light with just
Cola and some fruits. Wrf can't we invent a perpetuum
mobile.
