what blows my mind is that both russia and the us govt militaries are probably duking it out, blowing off steam after they clock out, in this game "War Thunder" and it's accurate enough that they're all... "hell no, i have some shit for this, and i refuse to lose" and they upload classified information to win the game, the argument
...and, weirdly enough, perhaps this is like animals play fighting, goats butting horns, because genuine conflict is too serious and damaging. that who wins and loses in this freaking game may actually influence what decisions on the ground commanders make in Bakhmut
i'm not sure how i feel about it. that this could be a genuine win, because it's virtual, and real people aren't getting killed. but otherwise it's very much uncharted territory, and given the history of humanity, there's some sort of catch here

In 2013, the cache of documents leaked by NSA contractor Edward Snowden revealed that the agency was actively monitoring Xbox Live
that, fuck me, i missed this. that it was around... 2010-11 that Microsoft Kinect came out? that i'm buying weed around then and my guy has just gotten the new kinect thing, and weed is legal here now, but it very much was not then, and... i'm just thinking: do you realize we're doing a drug deal in front of a camera/microphone array that can track who is who by sound alone? but i said nothing; no one came for us
...and i chalked it up to, "as an engineer i know this is possible, but that doesn't mean it's happening"
but fuck me, it was happening.
this actually makes me feel deep sympathy for the US govt: poor bastards trying to monitor halo voice chat because
One document, written in 2008 and titled Exploiting Terrorist Use of Games & Virtual Environments, warned that it was risky to leave gaming communities under-monitored, describing them as a “target-rich communications network”. The notes warned that so many different agencies were conducting operations inside gaming services that a “deconfliction” group was needed to prevent them spying on each other by accident.
and 90% of halo voice chat is "fuck you faggot you suck dick"
and i feel so bad for all the people whose job it was to monitor this. along with some neurotic engineer buying a quantity of dank that was so small as to never be worth any sort of law enforcement effort

stop them spying on each other, that's priceless and totally believable
should we feel bad for the surveillance state's grunts cos they're bored channel-hopping potential targets? no, fuck em for taking the king's shilling

In 2016, Snowden's vocals were featured on a song called "Exist" on the album Electronica 2: The Heart of Noise by French electronic music artist Jean-Michelle Jarre.[441]
snowden is the right age to have possibly created an electronic account.
so who here is a phed? this is a safe space we can be honest

that in contrast to so many gov agents getting on xbox live that they needed to create a new agency to keep them from spying on each other by accident... i feel like, this board is such an oddly deep vein at times... there are some gov agents that signed up for a zilty account before they became gov agents. though i doubt they're active posters... i'd put a $20 that we have at least a handful
