i feel like there is a vague subconscious awareness, and
bile, building around certain flavors of stock music. the
first breach above the surface of awareness was, arguably,
ukulele music, especially in insurance commercials.

npr's marketplace has a "your economy" recurring segment
they put on right at the end of the program. then perhaps
some ads and then kai is on talking for ten seconds before
more ads. that this is often where i've been closing the
stream, because they often pick this same sort of music for
"scrappy small business" focus

tonight it's xylophone, not ukulele, but the feel is there.
kind of, fresh morning, i can breathe now, as the lady is
saying "we take care over each and every individual order"

and it's not her, her business, her voice, or what she's
saying. it's the fucking music. oh my god make it stop

i need to sit down and quantify this particular type of
stock music more, but jeez... does anyone think before using
this shit now? or is it just like, "well everyone else uses
this here, so it's obviously correct"

they usually pick incredibly dope music and i'm just trying
to understand. maybe there's a cleave, and instead of hating
it, this music really works on people.

but me, yeah, i just have an increasingly severe allergic
reaction to some of this stuff to the point where i can't
tune it out enough to judge the thing on the actual
content.

it is a far cry from raymond scott inventing electronic
music to stand out from all the other ad jingles. i think
that's a lost secret; jingles work

i'll admit i've never developed the taste for stockhausen,
put off by reputation i guess. in case it's not clear -

stock, aiken & waterman - insanely successful pop producers
karheinz stockhausen - austere experimental composer
stock, hausen & walkman - neither of these

last track off that EP, running out of stars, probably like
2/10 of the way through it's this boomy rumbly part that
perfectly fakes out the sound of a suddenly close
helicopter.

i won't say which of my trax still fakes me out and think
the train is about to run by.

yesterday's episode, i'm cringing in anticipation of the
music. it's a little light guitarpiano and bleh, okay.
but... then they're just letting him talk? without music?
and, shit, did they hear me? or, really, someone actually
capable of bothering them had the same advice

but then no, the light guitar comes back screaming the same
obnoxious stock vibes, and even though it's soft... yes, i
realize i've not been listening to the actual podcast
content; i'm just totally sunk in trying to analyze why this
music is shit. like, christ, just use some ambient electro
or something

stock music, marketplace, npr, dec 15 -- still doubt they're
listening to me, but... the sneaker lady like ten minutes
in, perfect. some light hip-hop then just letting her talk

abysmal.

i mean, it is very NPR to run a 10-minute segment on holiday
toilet clogs just after christmas, but this has utterly
nothing to do with... stocks, bonds, the fed, hello? just go
to a mall and interview people if you can't think of
anything better?

but they do this, for some reason i cannot fathom. just fill
up ten minutes with poop. i was trying to eat dinner and so
i just... well, i went and churned through some things in my
head for a bit, occasionally checking back -- ok, no,
they're still talking about poop -- the numbers, skip past
the ads [download the mp3 yep] and the tree thing was the
only interesting segment, then we're into TERRIBLE STOCK
MUSIC and i'm not sure what the guy's business was because i
could have kept tuning it out but that was the last thing on
the show no use waiting just reach out and click stop

i can understand if it's a slow bidness newzday, but christ,
at least try to stay on-topic. and look who's complaining
about staying on topic

forget microblogging about mainstream old man ass npr

it's BORING, dude.

you're due for a microdose full dose of LSD. It's
been too long, and you've put out too many of your cthulu
tentacles into the postmodern wishing wells. You're due.
