so, alright, i'll bite. what, precisely, is wrong with this
site? i really have no particular opinion myself, other than
that their web site design is better than so many these
days. the articles, well, they're articles on a news site on
the internet? make up your own mind?

really kind of confused someone yelling at me for linking
the verge. for something that was really just a lol. have to
admit i don't get it

either there's some soyboy-esqe thing going on where
arguably bland tech news sites are the social equivalent of
shitting on the carpet -- never mind if it makes sense; it's
about what everyone else says about the verge -- or this is
just some incredibly detailed attempt to troll me.

either is fine

oh, hey, i'll google it. i find

a) verge is owned by vox is owned by comcast. but what
fucking isn't
b) controversy section is pretty much "they posted a
really shit PC build guide in 2018"

and yeah, either this is a joke or wolfslice needs to stop
snorting fruity pebbles

It looks like my *throughly* drunken replies caused several
spinoff threads. Yeah, I was stuck at my mom's house with
shit internet and not much do, and though she doesnt drink
much, there's a lot of booze here. Look, sorry if I came off
as a dick. I genuinely like you epic, just not some of the
covert sentiment in your recent links

I'm just going to focus on this one spinoff and just drop 10
naked links. It's taboo in this day and age to compile
something like this, and the easy retort is to reply that
I'm an incel or whatever. That's fine, I don't care any
more. But what Vox media (owns the verge, vulture, polygon
and others) does isn't just virtue signal, they shit on
anyone who isn't virtue signaling. They want to see art
their way.

If art is their way, it's the path to art being righteous
and good.

They're doing that with Musk now. I don't care about Musk,
but I know why their articles are slanted the way they are.

10 verge links. Could do probably 30 more. Could do 100+

And last note:

it's not a good thing that I drank a bunch while bored at my
mom's house and made a bunch of posts on xlt. It's sure fun
in the moment, but it's frankly embarassing the next day. I
know there's a real human dude behind epic mega trax, and
it's good to not internet it up so hard that one forgets
that.

i have a long memory. that, really, i do quite suspect the
people with long memories are the ones that work on it; that
actively index.

mom problems? let's talk. my mom can instantly drag out
quotes from arguments 20 years ago. so can i. then you get
into these recursive, repeating arguments that cut
increasingly deep channels like water damage, powered by the
in-the-corner rumination of that indexing mechanism focusing
its lasers on one stupid corner for far too damn long. my
aunt called it "playing tapes," having that some argument
over and over but worse

that i've experimented. i've told people at work the same
thing again seven or eight months later to see if they
remember. probably the weirdest result was when i did that
to someone twice and then a month or three later they kind
of just... came up with the idea? and it was definitely not
intentional.

particularly fun is when i am able to jog someone's memory.
"well we were doing this, and you were... and..." and then
~snap~ it comes back to them, "OH YEAH i remember now"

but i do this to myself all day long. that i fucking
remember this curse'd verge PC build video, and my
interpretation at the time was... this is a disgruntled
employee posting a video making them look like asses

but took me until now to reconstruct the dots.

I do check reddit mostly every day, but 99.99% of my time
there is on r/pathofexile, since it's the most active forum
for the game unfortunately.

The most reddit thing you can really do is what you did:
completely skirt a direct point made and just attack the
user.

the POINT I made, was a direct reply to your post.

"what Vox media (owns the verge, vulture, polygon
and others) does isn't just virtue signal, they shit on
anyone who isn't virtue signaling. They want to see art
their way.

If art is their way, it's the path to art being righteous
and good."

Maybe not very eloquently stated, but there it is. And then
I provided 10 examples.

The bit about being drunk at my moms house was only
explaining why I replied to you 20 times in one night and
caused you to make 7 different threads in reply. There was
no blame assigned, just a set and setting, and it wasn't
even the reply to your topic. The rest was.

Now, I don't expect you to actually tackle my actual point
without resorting to an attack on, I guess, the type of
person that would have the fucking nerve to compile 10 links
like that-- because that's ACTUALLY how someone one reddit
would respond.

Whatevs bro. I did try to reply in earnest with my thoughts,
and examples were given soberly.

I don't care at all about the guy who built the pc wrong.
That's just shoddy journalism but could happen anywhere. I'm
a lot more chronically annoyed the insidious pop culture
directed activism masquerading as informed journalism. The
intended goal seems to be that we should all homogenize.

But homogeneity doesn't produce anything worthwhile,
friction does.

1) i realized, like... "my mom is a bit tough and i'm
visiting and i'm holed up with red bull and vodka" seemed
like the explain, but there's also: "he's letting loose some
deeply unguarded trolling here"

b) i'm trying to understand; for real. on a scale of (-1, 1)
where -1 is "i hate the verge" and 1 is "the verge is god" i
am at, like, 0.0005. they are ever so mildly in my good
graces

q) dialing back to when: i am trying to understand your
reaction. like, really, the verge is that bad? what have i
missed? and i am genuinely trying to figure it out, and i
find nothing

a) i press the matter and you begin spewing the same
horseshit about "virtue hoarding" that tony caught like
herpes off reddit and alright, i have my nswer

I never said she was tough-- my mom's a huge softie. She
DOES keep a well stocked liquor cabinet though. The real
issue up there for the holidays was that there were too many
people using dogshit internet, and I couldn't play any games
or really stream anything. So I got up to some browsing
shenanigans.

I can't do much about you writing the argument off on
account of the vocabulary. Things like "woke" and "virtue
signaling" accurately describe the intended concepts in
current english lexicon, and they include a dash of the
intended derision of said concepts.

whom else you choose to align those words to doesn't concern

to more easily dismiss a point.

you can always just swap woke/virtual signaling in for self
righteous or displaying self righteousness.

It's probably my least favorite thing. Like ok, racism
sucks... but you can overcome that. I think most racist
people need a little exposure to others. "Yeah I don't like
black people but that guy who fixed my car, he's alright."
There's usually a crack in their ignorance and it wouldn't
take much to overcome it.

There are no cracks in thinking that your concepts are
literally morally superior to others. It's an innate flaw,
even psychedelics dismantling the rest of you cannot counter
(in fact, more likely to bolster the problem). I don't be in
moral truths. I guess that's really all I have to say on it.

it's kind of funny. back when new accounts were allowed
here, the flood of dupes, certain lot just make dupe after
dupe and... after a while, just start to smell it out: oh,
that's one of his. i can tell from the punctuation

similarly, when tony danza went off kind of, one day -- on
discord, when i used it -- when i mentioned jack dorsey
taking ice baths and being religious about his daily
multi-mile walks. and tony is all: virtue hoarding! blah
blah! and my genuine reaction was, i shit you not, "tony
isn't stupid and maybe he's right?" but it felt strange. i
was getting that dupe tingle, you know? like this was a sock
puppet account

but tony put me onto the thing about the chinese investing
all over africa and south america like, oh, nine months
before i'd have cracked that on my own, so should i give it
the benefit of... no, this still feels weird. i can't place
it; let's stick a pin in it.

then wolfslice has the same erupting sore moment here, and
it feels just as much of a non-sequitur.

that, moreover, tony, you were wrong, i go back to my
original -- likely correct -- sense of jack dorsey. that if
i were the CEO of twitter and square, i, too, would tell
everyone to fuck off for three hours a day as i walked four
miles to work and back. need some fucking moment to think,
right?

the ice baths, he explained that as like: to train myself to
not hesitate when i know pain and bullshit is coming

also seems entirely valid to stay sane as dual CEO.

then he mentions it in some interview, because someone was
asking him about this shit, so he told, i read, i commented
to tony, and it's this explosion about virtue hoarding when
i don't even think the guy really even intended to
advertise; he just answered some interview questions

what if some 23yo kid is just out of college and super
stoked to work for vox media and he works wicked hard on his

blah blah and what this feels crappy

people hound journalists into the ground over insane
imagined nonsense and then people complain journalism is
crap. of course it is. you twats ensure it

so, yes, let's weave this together. weaves are big business.
people smash in store windows for 'em in georgia. weave
heist

...oh, yes, right, the thing about conversations from 20
years ago. tony has a bit of a steve albini tip but,
similarly, steve albini is right sometimes. that i am 3/4
sure it was DM's on discord, that i genuinely asked him:
virtue hoarding? what does that mean? i had never heard the
term before

i have a hard time saying when, exactly. the memory pathways
are tangled up with the other conversation on discord that
is relevant here -- because this is the first time i've
significantly referenced either, and i'm doing them both at
once in this context... basically, by trying to remember
these both at once, i've gone and tangled them up; welcome
to the mind.

at this point i'm just being irritating; feel free to keep
reading. the other conversation is about the quiet diplomacy
china has been doing getting africa on the hook for debt for
shit construction projects they really don't need, and i
think that happened on the politics channel or something.

when it comes to a "when" i cannot immediately place, i try
to think of the place i was in when the memory i misplaced,
happened. and i get an image of my apartment before i moved
for the china discussion. the virtue hoarding convo; it's
weird. i have a hard time placing it. but it feels much more
recent than that

point: vox is owned by comcast, but who isn't? you,
yourself, are in some small portion, owned by comcast. so
please treat journalists as normal failable humans. the idea
of unbiased news is insane; accept this and cut them some
slack. your bullshit filter should be on a per-article
basis; merely colored by the source's reputation. i just
hear a lot of blindly attacking this or that news
organization with no real substantive... anything... and
it's like: okay they pissed reddit off somehow; that's all
it is
