no politics, no shitting, just straight reviews

1 subproject- I love the SOUND of the distortion. Little
stabs poking through. Kick drum pattern doesn't interest me
much, but some of the melodic floruishes are nice. It's a
well produced track

2 sidegrind
beat is cooler. jazzy and upbeat, kinda cheeky and twisted.
again, really nice distortion kicks in. Maybe it overwhelms
a little bit, but it's improvsionational and jazzy and cool.
I like the outro best, small sounds played like that sound
great on acid.

3. elon musk TWITTER TAKEOVER
generally like it the least melodically and rhythmically in
the first half, but some nice sounds in there. Sick little
whine at 0:49. Beat becomes more interesting at 1:50 or so.
Chirpy birds and lots of percussion. If there's a legit
statement in the track I dont hear it, maybe woulda sampled
elon musk saying some retarded shit just to bolster the
track title. I did that with woke hamburgler to a decent
effect.

aight cool tracks man, legit.

subproject is meant for like... speakers, a good large sub,
feel it move around the floorboards. like the kick drum
pattern -- just a skeleton, really -- starts to grow fur or
something

the original name of the last track was "cyberpoop" but then
i was like: "i don't terribly like that name, i want to
re-name it" then i have a mild tech industry theme going on
already, and... why yes, this kind of works as a musical
narratives to the emotional developments within the twitter
corporation. so, essentially, no, not really a statement
except i decided it fit perfectly

if it makes any sense, a lot of stuff i do, i just sort of
do it, then days or weeks i'll later have a moment, "...oh!
that's what that was about"

thanks for listening.

magika plastica

that a) no one buys these anyways b) if you do buy them you
can redownload them in the current state whenever, so n) i
think i'm actually going to go back and jigger around with a
bunch of these. but this one, just hot off the prussians and
all

nice development of the melody in subproyect through the
track

sidegrind was some nice free jazz like a robotic john zorn
or something

elon musk twitter take over sounded like the music for a
boss battle

nice sampling in the magika plastica & II tracks

i really like how you develop your ideas even when its more
pure banging like in rebooty, your tracks always seem to be
going somewhere and moving wich i really like

it makes sense to make stuff an give it a rest for a while
before coming back, im always trying to listen to my own
stuff as if it was someone else

ps: my name is ronald mcdonald

so i've kept my bandcramp in autistic precise chronological
order, and last night, kind of, screw it, i'll just mash
these into a playlist instead. which is 70% all at once, and
30% continued fussing

today i'm listening to sk-1 jams again, and, actually,
i should move this up the playlist. i spent probably about
100 hours completely tearing apart an sk-1, soaking all the
buttons and keys in the bathtub, building an external patch
bay / busybox in some wooden cab knicknack that connects
with a DB-25 cable; essentially as an art therapy project to
distract myself from crippling depression. i have dox ~
0 1 2

then the album, the premise was:

1) modded SK-1 sole sound source but whatever aux fx i want.
note each voice has an individual out, drums have their own
out, etc, so with my dub stuff obviously some avenues

2) one sample per track, a few are the presets because just
cover all the bases

3) record at least one per day, more optional

kept it up for a month or so. just an odd thought: if rdj
were like, "hi, send me an album" i actually think this
would be a solid choice; dodge some anxiety. that it's very
much something i built myself, but it's stripped down and
focused, and... well, i'm not highly technical jazz
keyboardist man, but i do feel like this displays... i
dunno, just sort of a plasticity about what's going on with
the sound vs. how i play the keys. and there's no movie
magic

it makes sense to make stuff an give it a rest for a
while

a little of a giggle as it just hit me this statement makes
conformal sense. it works on different levels of scale. that
music, at its core, is tension and release -- make stuff and
then give it a rest for a while

just part of sorting through stuff, listening through my
things again. i was also listening to acid bidness today,
and yes, this is about as close as i get to... clinical, i
think was the adjective someone used for jodey kendrick's
+10. except it's all grainy dub and not clinical in that
regard... but, heck, rambling here. i just find the whole
album a very satisfying exercise in form where i have taken
a palette of options -- not minimal, but still consistent
throughout -- and then essentially worked them through every
reasonable permutation. satisfying like japanese ink
painting

clark track off turning dragon where it sounds like a point
cloud of bouncing ball bearings and i'm just like...

then also, 3:33ish, baby go relax, like, yeah, that was such
a wonderful thonk. it's a data-bent roland xp10 808 kit
through a tube preamp and then exploded and blown up again;
mixed with all sorts of stuff. kind of a personal record of
sorts, that i can think of other incredibly strong 808
cowbell moments i've had, but this wins.

it makes me think of "tits and acid" by simian mobile disco,
that discussing the 808 cowbell before the drop, and my
subjective description was, "it's like a roland sound was
left in the back of the fridge for too long and it's gone a
bit moldy." but, mind you, this is just me talking with
someone about why we both love that sound so much, and this
is not an insult at all, just trying to dial in the
synaesthesia. and he agrees with me

that was a sustained vibe, but, yeah, this one cowbell
here... very happy with it. i grant a no-hate license to
sample it

that, really, i'm just excited sometimes, and, you know, i
want to explain it so people can appreciate it too.

like, one of the things you can do with music is imbue it
with a sense of gravity. like: you're falling and falling
and... or, in the case of subProject, it's like there's a
gravitational suck upwards; just slowly pulling you the
whole track. not that all songs have gravity like that one
way or another, it's just one of a bajillion things you can
do with music. but yes, good floater this one

today i was just in a bit of a funk and i spent ages just...
reading wikipedia, and i got into looking at monet
paintings. and i was listening to first track off rash can
now, and... yeah, it's this. i didn't mean to lift
it. i only noticed hours after

unintentional leakage. but i do think back to when i read
this quote:

He used bright colours in dabs and dashes and squiggles
of paint. Having rejected the academic teachings of Gleyre's
studio, he freed himself from theory, saying "I like to
paint as a bird sings."

i kind of laughed, and thought: just skip the painting, it's
easier

i never got into programming scales, microtonal whatever, i
just tried to copy how, like, afx or whatever sounded by
ear. and, i dunno, very much a sense of painting, now. tonet

that bandcramp can be kind of a circlejerk: this person
bought my album, oh, it's polite to buy theirs. and sweet as
this is -- and hell it gets me, definitely -- you realize
it's just the same pool of money shafting backing and forth
with bandcramp taking a cut each time. so i feel like
stumping for someone to buy my music somewhere like zility
is, like, just putting money in bandcramp's pocket, that i'd
rather just trade our musics for free or something at that
point. you buy my album and then i buy yours and we're both
slightly poorer; splitting the fee bandcramp takes both
ways.

so where is the influx of external income to make this
viable? and yes, i can hear you laughing now. that'd be
nice, right? but i guess it is worth asking, because i feel
like, somehow, this is creating value for people, actually,
and how much, and who can reasonably pay without it being a
blink in their budget in proportion for what they're
getting?

that, that is where i am really like dfhjgdjfhg -- that, i'm
not going to tongue the worms out of tiktok's anus until i
get paid. i don't really like making videos. i am not good
at being reliable and producing new content three times a
day like a professional handler training animals. in the
episode of mythbusters where jamie and adam compete to train
goldfish, jamie says, "i'll win this, because the key with
animals is consistency, and adam is a fucking spazz, he'll
yell and make random movements and it'll confuse them." then
some other episode, "adam is incredibly good and building
vastly complex things incredibly quickly, but he rushes, he
makes mistakes, he injures himself, so i'll probably win
this one too" and jamie was right in both cases. but then, i
do recall, the needlefinder 9000 or whatever did kick his
ass next round

that last paragraph, yes. if making even beer money off
music requires reliable content like feeding hounds at
precise times... no, fuck it; i'm fukqd

ohh colour of money, right. never seen it

bandcamp is just a reliable host with a small url i can give
out without shame and without having to fuck around with
sendspace vs mega etc. pretty sure i will never make
anything close to a living from music, and i get that
bandscramp can be a circle jerk at times, but on balance i
kinda like it, soz

the color of monet

i could host a few dozen or hundred albums that got a few
thousand downloads before i'd have to go all SBF @ FTX and
start borrowing bandwidth from the toaster

said more simply, i can host everything i've done in flac, i
could help a bunch of other people out too, that was kind of
the the idea of riced out records

but it was just deceptively easier to just slap stuff on
soundclot and have a giggle complaining about all the bots
as if this were actually Serious Shit and then suddenly
they're flagging for copyright and i can't just bung my
silly stuff on there anymore and

bandcramp, solid repo really. but dangling the carrot of
"...someone might buy it." it's true, someone might. someone
really might. maroon 5 is still relevant, so anything's
possible

nice tracks. i like your music, ive shown it to friends and
they also like it. i really dont know how to make a career
out of music myself, so i cant comment on that. bandcamp is
weird, sometimes random people buy stuff and you dont know
where they found you. if i had to guess, you oght to pay for
promotion of your links or something and hope for the best,
also try to play live and such, marketing amd career stuff.
i just like to make music. i do agree that bandcamp is
ripping us off charging such fees just to host your music,
if you are paying for promotion maybe it would be better to
host it yourself

that, gosh, it's so tough to drive this home: I've long
given up the idea of music as a "job" but from there the
ultimate conclusion is that i simply can't help myself, i'll
obsess over my trax amyways, particularly if i am in a mood,
where, like, if i stop focusing on music I'll punch a hole
in the fucking wall. and, hey, I'm not doing this out of
some naive attempt to launch a career, but there is a heck
of a lot of work into it, belb is the only one to really buy
my albums recently and, hi belb: it means a lot to me that
you did that; thx. but you have been through so much

if you want to send me money, i won't say no, it's just kind
of like... this thing where i'm supposed to build a fanbase,
it feels kind of disgusting when... shit, is this too
direct? i still have both my eyeballs. the idea of trying to
rope you in as a fan and get you to buy all the whatever
feels deplorable. that, if it makes sense, it's like: thank
you from the bottom of my heart, and part of how i
appreciate it is feeling like your money is better spent on

if i don't keep on top of it i get a ridiculous number of
bandcamp spams. it's useful to keep up to date with new
releases from ppl you genuinely like tho, and you can
one-click unsubscribe from crap in the emails. i don't think
that's intrusive. it's just the bandcamp "attitude" that's a
bit icky. i can't even put my finger on it precisely, but
it's like there's a built-in listener-as-customer

ASDFMR

i feel the title suits me. also, starting to find my footing
on panning; happy with the second track in particular.
dodged being too lead-foot on it this time, and it has this
nice sort of one-two like a monkey wrench spinning with
smaller monkey wrenches pulling about with centrifugal force
on each end of the mother monkey wrench, and... oh,
nevermind; clearly i need to go back and rethink my

so this kind of stuck in my brain; it would actually be very
valuable to me to know: why did you describe it as a "toucan
melody" ?

i can come up with theories but your actual answer will be
more interesting.

So I woulda said the Toucan was based on one of your album
covers, because I sorta pictured it in that shitty, fear and
loathing in las vegas style AI art you've used a few
times...

but I checked your bandcamp albums and there was no toucan,
so chalk it up to pure free association from the DMT realm
or something.

ol' rambunctious ~ actually much better than i expected it
to be after a day or two. first few minutes quite solid

knockers ~ some moments but eh

crewticle ~ not bad, not hugely fascinating, but ending
definitely "with feeling"

all of this was pretty thoroughly live improvised. usually i
have some sort of plan. went slightly better than i
expected it to

four tracks before this -- yeah, see those.
