LAZY_TITLE

first thot: i'll set up a mastodon server. i'll really
freaking do it

second thot: this is a platform and you can build any number
of stupid apps on top of it.

[shut up epics: did someone link this to me before? or is
this pretty much what i was starting to design in my hed?
like, fuck justin timberlake buying myspace and deleting all
the data; fuck elon musk buying twitter. fuck mark
zuckerbird, sticking his hummingbird beak into all's
bidness. if all these twats shared their toys and didn't
create walled gardens, well, they wouldn't be so fucking
fragile and prone to mass collapse in a see of trollish
giggles, would they?]

honestly, neal stephenson's lamina thing... but that's a
year or so off at least; need something now.

urbit, well, i don't know if this is off the deep-end or not
from the glossy print. but i can say a) it's not what we
want for this; wrong tool for the job, and b) i'll still
have a look anyways even though this feels like it could be
templeOS

okay, bottom line -- how many of these shits come and go
because of stuffed suits? myspace got executed. facebook was
always a sleeper turd. elon musk is actively killing
twitter. xltronic is p. good and sheltered from the storm,
but tenuous; thx tony. i could create some forum site but...
no, nevermind cryptocurrency or the hooters IPO, the
blockchain could be used to create a message board that
exists as a sort of shared torrent; nothing but message
board data. anyone can download the whole thing. most
people, obviously, will not care to, but this then enables
anyone to develop their own reader, so you'll get two dozen
to pick from, and one will fit your style on your device.
then it's just shared data and not a walled garden at the
mercy of some nutjob feudal landlord

imo.

there's some workable mashup between "disco inferno" and
"discord ipo" but i'll leave it as an exercise

In March 2021, Discord announced it had hired its first
finance chief, former head of finance for Pinterest Tomasz
Marcinkowski. An inside source called this one of the first
steps for the company towards a potential initial public
offering, though co-founder and CEO Jason Citron had stated
earlier in the month he was not thinking about taking the
company public. Discord doubled its monthly user base to
about 140 million in 2020.[26] The same month, Bloomberg
News and The Wall Street Journal reported that several
companies were looking to purchase Discord, with Microsoft
named as the likely lead buyer at a value estimated at $10
billion.[27][28] However, they ended talks with Microsoft,
opting to stay independent.[29] Instead, Discord launched
another round of investment in April 2021.[30] Among
those investing into the company was Sony Interactive
Entertainment; the company stated that it intended to
integrate a portion of Discord's services into the
PlayStation Network by 2022.[31][32]

--bad boy wiki p

at some point the sony mafia will want its cash back and
then some. don't try and tell me they won't

that, hell, maybe not. maybe sony chipped in a few bucks and
hooked discord up to their console walled garden because
people kept leaving their walled garden to use discord and
whew; sorted

but valued at $10bil, yeah. it's class to tell microsoft to
get lost but if you're sitting on that, well, imagine it
must be an immense hassle to run and how long can anyone
hold out before saying... being a multi-billionaire does
sound a bit easier than this shit

and that's the problem. when someone owns it, it has a
price, and so you want it to be more like (sorry) usenet,
where it's just kind of a shared pool of chat, so by design,
no one can own it, and it's reduced to some internet
services earning a couple mere million a year for pushing
data and crafting cool readers, and, well, donald trump
would be unbannable, but on many other levels, the madness
would stop

i actually have some thoughts on how to... you could,
essentially, break a message board up into a floating
blockchain or whatever and still have a) moderation b) DMs
despite being blockchain -- so long as encryption were
employed cleverly

but idea is it's just a protocol; an agreement. that people
could build forums with moderation or forums where no one
has absolutely any control. build a forum on top of a forum
for meta-commentary. i dunno

too bad i'm not rich or i might bother.

> Why does everyone need a voice it’s so

...or wait did you mean, like, needing to +v someone in
IRC?

if so i went a bit off-topic, and the answer is simply: lazy
design

alright, mastodon

early signs, not good. looking at the docs, it's like "hey,
i said like usenet, not like fucking uucp"

but it's just to rough to take off, i'm thinking. then i
find this:

LAZY_TITLE ~ Stealing passwords from infosec Mastodon

Everybody on our Twitter feed seemed to be jumping ship
to the infosec.exchange Mastodon server, so I decided to see
what the fuss was all about. After figuring out why exactly
you had to have loads of @ symbols in your username, I began
to have a look at how secure it was. If you've followed me
on Twitter you'll know I like to post vectors and test the
limits of the app I'm using, and today was no exception.

First, I began testing to see if HTML or Markdown was
supported. I did a couple of "tweets" to see if you could
have code blocks (how cool would that be?) but nothing
seemed to work. That is, until @ret2bed pointed out that you
could change your preferences to enable HTML! That's right
people, a social network that enables you to post HTML -
what could possibly go wrong?

i'll share my take when you stop using 'thot'

or i guess not, here is an article

i don't think we have enough collective power to overthrow a
capitalist, established thing like twitter

oh, and your server will be cut off from the fediverse
pretty quickly if you're being misogynist and otherwise
reactionary

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2022-11-27 11:06 [#02622659]

so the obvious thing to do would be to set up a new forum
and start with "please enter your xltronic login and
password to prove your identity"

that trolling aside, theoretically, anyone could make a
thread here and essentially say, "verify yourself on riced
out yugo forums" and just post from your account saying what
your account is in the thread, thus authorizing, and that's
that. xltronic as a root certificate; a chain of trust.
grave times

i remember where i learned a lot of words. i could take you
to the exact physical spot i learned the word "myriad," for
example, within inches. i don't remember where it was when i
absorbed "thot" but i do remember it was from an interview
with one richard d. james. and if it's good enough for him
who are you to say me no

that so long as as you do not say "hay i'm going to sign up
as bla bla bla" or sign up as blaBlahAH and starting talking
without tying it up and you've made your own mess if you
wait six days and mermaidman sweeps in and muddies the
waters. that's what (s)he's here for; to keep us sharp

more technically: the most important thing about xltronic at
this point is that it has been aging like laphroaig; it's
been cut off from signups since before tiktok was a twinkle
in XJ's anus. does anyone here use twitter? i've no clue.
etc.

but again, the thing where is is the locals pub where sean
connery shows up sometimes. locals know to mostly leave him
alone, but, one night, they get up some courage and... "what
was the best fuck you ever had?" no answer. they get the
hint and go back to their own fings. but, as he's leaving,
he says "[forget], 1967... up the arse"

and this was a joke someone on xlt told, and it's perfect,
that's this place at this point. but more like someone i've
heard of have probably pissed me off at someone point or
another and i've absolutely no clue and that's hilarious to
me

so if it must melt down let's at least exfiltrate the chain
of nonsense somehow. but i don't think it has to

no, no, no. the bitcoin blockchain, a public ledger for
everyone; that's also wrong. you need user accounts tied to
a key file like you'd use for github. that you can download
the whole giant internet full of chat if you are so
inclined, but since it's all heavily encrypted, you still
user accounts, along with DMs. moderation is not a concern;
that's on the client end. any money in this will be in
writing clients; and it will never be $30b unicorns. for
everyone's sake

i need, essentially, the budget to hire someone that really,
really knows cryptography, and to pay my bills for a year or
so. in particular, i feel like a smart stealth bet is to
harden against quantum computer attax

that sounds like an idea

It was a tense engagement, but RusellDust clearly comes out
on top with the homosexual innuendo. Mermaidman slinks back

Extra points awarded for using the term "bottom," but the

also been a victory.
