i was just reflecting on this. steve mcqueen, i think it was you posting some insane acid ramble about 68k assembly language? so yes, i figure this thought should register with some here: IRC is just a protocol. no one controls it; no one is milking you for tokens. there are literally dozens of clients for any platform available, that can actually be configured to do what you like. it is purely text with a basic "/me" emote shortcut; that's it. from here it should make sense when i also say i don't care whose IRC server it is. i can even set one up if people want, but figure that's superfluous since plenty out there already the larger context, i dunno, i know what 68k assembler language is? i am also, like "full-stack" or some shit, i use react, rails, docker, i know how to design for mobile... but i grew up with a mouse and keyboard, and i fucking hate using the internet on a phone, ironically, since i wanted nothing more than what was, effectively, a smartphone when i was 16. using the internet on a phone feels like being downgraded from hands to tweezers. so i guess... i am fluent in all the new shit... i've kept current... but like this place is kind of a regulars' pub shielded from, for back of a better word, the enkelkindern... yeah, IRC sounds good in the same way, because if anyone in their teens manages to find that they're probably worth keeping an eye on |
