for the brits: NPR is National Public Radio, kind of the US
BBC

growing up, the local NPR station had stuff like
car talk, but... shit, already. the actual domain name
is now a freaking spamsquat site, so i've linked a "best-of"
podcast instead.

then they had "a celtic sojurn" with brian o'donovan, who
had a bit much of the gift of gab, and my dad would complain
the guy never stopped talking and turn down the radio as we
drove to the dump saturday mornings

but now all the stuff like that is largely gone. they still
have "wait wait don't tell me," but all the stuff that had
the old feel has largely been replaced by, like... the TED
radio hour (hit or miss) and The New Yorker radio hour
(largely miss) and then BBC world service for hours and
hours; i never thought i'd miss Diane Reams (wobbly old lady
voice). I almost tuned in now, but, right, it's Con Salsa
until 3am on Saturdays now instead of at least replays of
more interesting stuff, no, it's just going to be elevator
music after their icecast server forces me through at least
two ads; i've learned the cutoff point when they glue the
generic ad intro recorded in the booth into the actual ad
recorded in the booth and if i just let it get a hair into
the latter i can clack x twice in winamp and save a few
seconds of my life

but not even worth it for con salsa.

first one, i just put it on, "sherry's menopausal mercury,"
they're talking about, "what is the noun of assemblage for
vehemence?" and, actually, there's a lot of these guys in me
and i never even noticed
