so it actually took a while for my ability to play the microfreak to come back. it's like trying to play a spiderweb like a harp. but if you can get ahold of it... and 8-10 mixes, octothad, do the math. but one i was tired and it was crap. two i was warming up and it was crap. 2-3 from the other night, probably actually should re-listen, i remember they were simpler but much tighter. then i just recorded the percussion running by itself so i can use it as scratching material later. what i really want back is the great take i got for thad #6 only to find the track was unarmed but this one, yes, much better. but maybe i have a better one in me we'll see |

so i have had to do some things that involve leaving the phone on speaker, on hold, grainy waiting music, the same 45s loop forever and i was messing around with my sampler just now, and i was like: I HAVE THE BEST WORST ON-HOLD MUSIC EVER the drums don't truly start to loop until just before the fade, but... it doesn't matter. just like your call. your call is not important. stew in this purgatory |

which email? and to what end? that i have 90% stopped using email entirely and my life feels better that way. i do feel bad that i've probably missed all sorts of personal messages, but i feel like my life is my own and i have the bubble i need to go off and get properly deep on whatever. that if anything is really important, that means it's important to somewhere where i am regularly, or they will call me or slack me or make a thread or something it's not "no," more like "...just don't expect me to read emails in a timely manner" and i'd recommend the same for everyone else on planet earth. |

i always like -- this take has this good bit, that take has that good bid, oh, can't i just get it all in one take? and i did try. but we have a heatwave and all my gear is up in the attic and it'll all be out of tune if i leave it on into tomorrow anyways... and thx. i think octothad was pretty good in retrospect. then i even came back and got some quality goofs. the ms-1 has been a godsend, but, fuck's sake, can't behringer even publish a cheat sheet for the combo moves? like, i have to go to this guy's youtube video every time to remember how to save a pattern. because usually i just say fuck it and switch all the gear off after i've gotten it down well enough |

he said "email me at my email thing" and i don't have his email thing, i avoid email now unless absolutely necessary -- nothing personal, just to protect my ability to concentrate -- and he hasn't said what it is regarding, either. he could validly say "i don't want to say in public on here" and provide his "email thing" and ok i'll say hullo. but then be warned i won't check the inbox often -- nothing personal, just to protect my ability to concentrate. but, really, what i would like to say is this: i'm thinking of my kind of kill bill, wiggle your big toe moment with the microfreak. and after hours of grinding on it, even with sleep in between... i think of the notes, and i can see them in my head like flash cards. and what's weird is they have a very particular spot, the flash cards appear, like... bottom-rightish of my internal visual field, which is where i currently have the microfreak set up. that it is about, essentially, stretching your neuroplasticity across the current setup, so it becomes like an arm; you don't think you just move it. learning to adapt and stretch into different setups is actually a skill that i believe anyone can work on and develop. however, the speed with which i managed to beat those microfreak muscle memory parameters into myself, that's why i'm writing this. that, yes, this is a skill, actually, huh. |

i dunno. i haven't been around here as much recently, right? it's nothing to do with this place. i literally had four people text me with crap like "since it's the weekend and you have time can you do this" and literally all four can fuck off since i'm already full booked. then even that, i threw a lot of it under the bus to work on music -- and i may regret this, but i needed to for my fucking sanity. you were the only one who replied to cheboygan spam and with all the threds seems like you needed some cheering up, so i thot: i need to record some music, i think i'll do a thad schema and i'm glad you like it. that's all i really wanted -- to make some music for my sanity; to have you like it. then i'm being frank about my complete lack of ability to read/reply to email and suddenly it's an east coast elitist thing and i don't even know where you live ok so please calm down. |
