[r/Autechre] What's your favourite Ae album ranking ?

offline obara from Utrecht on 2022-01-10 19:27 [#02615569]
Points: 19368 Status: Lurker

"Exai for sure. And tracks from elseq and nts. It's hard to
choose full albums. "Album" is quite an overrated term,
especially in Ae case.

The last 2 Ae albums taught me not to buy an Ae record
without hearing it first. Try before you buy, sort of. E.g.
Sign [the vinyl version when I played it without hearing the
lp before] begins wonderful but then...F7 comes in. So I
made my own spotify playlist with my favs from both latest
albums, I stick to that. "omg Sign and Plus are the best
albums ever" ofc they're not. They have some very cool
moments but they're quite repetitive.

In other words: If you put "latentcall", "pendulu hv moda"
with the help of "acdwn2" in a kung-fu fight vs the whole
Sign and Plus - they're just smashed. Exai wouldn't just
have to move a muscle or send T ess xi to help. That's how I
view it.

Sorry to crash your nice topic, sort of. I don't believe in
lists, in Ae lists especially. Cheers."

I just can't treat topics like that too seriously. It's like
a bunch of 10 years old bought the whole Ae in CD or mp3 and
listen and TRY TO RATE. What's the fucking point. It shows
nothing, rating cats makes more sense.

Or dogs.

Yeah I moved exai down 2 slots on my text doc. Honestly
L-Event is probably ahead too because tac Lacora and Osla
for N are such bangers. I like them both better than any one
track on Exai.

I've spotted a terrible inconsistency.

Previously in this thread I said "tac Lacora and Osla
for N are such bangers. I like them both better than any
one
track on Exai."

Neither made the top 25, but spl9 from exai did.

Caught in my own web of lies

all in all i don't really have my finger on the pulse (or
anus) of the 10 year old making lists community as obara
suggests.. just an aging boomer who kinda enjoys ranking
thinbs. and enjoys other people's rankings, it tells you a
bit about them.

like if you said bqbqbbbqbq was your favorite autechre track
i'd think you're retarded or something, but that's vital
information to have.

What’s your take on the likes of Myspace and online fan
communities like xltronic and watmm?

WATMM? What’s WATMM?

We Are The Music Makers…

…Oh THAT thing! And XLTronic, well XLT, it’s a bit more
macho innit and We Are The Music Makers is a bit more geeky.
I like them both, slightly… but, you know, it’s like any
online community.

Do you pay any attention to the feedback you see on those
forums, do you keep a thermometer of what people think?

Well now that they’ve all been MySpace’d, now you can
find them all… and they’re all having their pictures up
and stuff and be honest about how they are, it’s slightly
chilled them all out, which is good! I mean, I know who most
people are on there now, which is a bit weird. So I don’t
tend to post much now as a result, I post like once a
month… and it’s usually just to correct someone
[Laughs]. Mainly my mates go on their and will post up links
to stuff.

Well, I have to admit… I am one of the ones that hangs
around We Are The Music Makers… from time to time
[Laughs]

Well that’s not like a bad thing to say, not really!
I’ll probably be trying to find you later. The thing is,
We Are The Music Makers is actually alright now, because
they’ve divided it up into fan rooms, it stops people
going like “you fuckin’ twat – that band are shit”
posting in threads they shouldn’t even be posting to. But
it’s all good, faceless communities create that insane
interaction you don’t get anywhere else. So if you can
handle it, and you’re feeling a bit brave then go for
it…but it tends to just make me giggle, smirk and then go
‘Oh God!’, you know?

2-3 times before I thought "Ae albums are like wine, they
age nicely" I thought the same hearing Augmatic Disport [omg
I can write the title from memory well, just checked google]
today and thinking "wow" and appreciating little details,
some dub nods towards the end a lot more than I did years
back.

So, I mean, LP5 seems like a hit record filled with pop
tunes compared to e.g. EP5 or Confield nowadays

Nowadays I appreciate both EP5 and Confield a lot more

"It grows on you" - it's true. Brain needs time to get used
to something. And with Ae music it's always so rewarding.

Maybe even most of SIGN grows on me. Someday. Eventhough it
sounds like old dog repeating old tricks. I hope I'm wrong.
Or they start getting more interesting again.

Sorry, but Exai is their career peak to me. Have a nice
Sundae.

"they have so many CDs you could stack them all up and jump

depending on how much you weigh, the idea is quite
interesting

if you consider suicide ofc

[lol]

I’m a bit fancy in Plus since it sounds cooler and is

and plus... but octothorpe; no one mentions that one. must

haven't listened.

Tri Repetae is one of the albums I use to test speakers. So
it is the mostly played.

The only 3 things I really, thoroughly listened to are
Incunabula, Confield and Gantz Graf EP. The other stuff
makes me re listen to max 2 tracks per album. Yeah, Autechre
wasn't really good with the album format

I remember seeing them live in 2003 I think and they played
a live set. I think they only used Machinedrum. It was
boring AsFff…
