i'm amazed at how many of us are still here from the aphextwin.nu and autechre.nu days. i wouldn't be surprised if this is one of the "longest boards running while retaining some it's oldest members for the longest period of time ever" on the internet. like can you seriously find a messageboard that even existed before y2k that's still on the net and with original core users still using it? lmao we have users that have outlasted the owner & moderators. the one thing i'd really like is for my account to be switched over to the type that can attach images -- a max of like 10kb, i'd presume it used to be something you got with a donation, and, well, that's broken too. the donation functionality itself works fine; checked that out over the holidays myself. maybe i should write an email like "hi please run the single SQL query to flip this flag over in my account lord knows i've donated plenty enough to qualify" but that's, like, effort |

if i had to guess: phobs a busy man but a bit of a soft touch. like, it's possible this site actually generates honest-to-god beer money, even, but that's not really on the radar. and it's not like you have to shoot old yeller; you can just leave it alone and only intervene if there is a problem. troll spam accounts got out of control; this is too hard to fix. so let's just shut off registrations. oh, the server broke, php is like 4.20 versions ahead, everyone get out back and push it up the hill. shit, you can't search a user's posts now, even if you log in. oh well fuck it. good enough so i feel cutting off new accounts was an accidentally brilliant move. i had no inkling how it'd turn out myself... i just figured, oh, phobs is busy, that's a fucking hell of a problem anyways, vetting new accounts then it becomes a sort of simmering nuclear slag time capsule. this would be a slow and depressing trickle into inactivity if not for the extreme roots of this board; the thousands of dormant accounts that could, theoretically, come back at any moment. someone finally has an idea what they might have changed their password to while drunk ten years ago and and old face gurns again |

google site search used to be proper. site:xltronic.com and i can utterly not be bothered by how zilty does not even do search... but, then, 2013-14, google tapped out; decided the internet was too hard and let's just be shit. seems like a hard date cutoff was implemented, with anything more than a few weeks stale no longer ever showing up with site:xltronic.com. this is when i wrote my first script to rip the board. utterly redid it like Oct 2020; replaced cumbersome mysql with sqlite. updated it for all the strange edge cases the server migration fomented. scrape avatars and attachments. it's been relatively stable since with the complete lack of development work, which i appreciate. i just run it every now and then to update the gestalt. i'm running it again now; been since start of november! i need all the shitposts from the past two months in an sqlite database because something something someday i'll make a virtual xltronic simulation where it's all just GPT-2 bots of us all chattering with each other and no humans are allowed to intervene |
