favorite book: I did not read anything written this year
(waiting on a lot of fantasy and sci fi series to finish)

favorite game: I did not play anything made this year
(my steam backlog could get me through the rest of my life,
and elden ring comes out soon)

favorite movie: I did not watch any movies produced this
year
(movies are just presently dead unless you're one of like 5
trusted auteurs like Lynch, Tarantino etc)

favorite music release: PHOENECIA- MD.SLVG

name someone under 45 making *anything* at a super high
level from a compositional standpoint:
uhh

I forgot serialized tv. Nothing good there either but Ozark
season 4 will probably be good

big budget is on hold, however it gives time
to catch up on things.

books:
Stephen Baxter & Alastair Reynolds - The Medusa Chronicles
starts off slow and annoyingly jumps between eras until the
shit hits the fan, but then i really started to enjoy it.

Herman Melville - Moby Dick
interesting read about whaling and human nature/history,
dont expect a fluent read though. after a brilliant
introduction of the storytellers character the arc of
tension is constantly broken by essays about whales and
their industrialized hunting and processing. but i found
that some of those passages were just written very well.

Terry Pratchett - Feet of Clay
Golems and a werewolf in Ankh Morpork´s city watch. No need
to say more.

Fav Game:
Subnautica (still)
going to a real arcade with tons of machines on free play
twice

Fav Recent Movies:
Annihilation
Color out of Space (hands on best Lovecraft to date & by a
huge margin)
Alita 3D (expected junk, but then enjoyed it, due to
robotics and FX and overall thematic)

Music:
recent spam i would say

*waggles finger* none of that was from 2021.

Medusa Chronicles is on my to read list though. Era jumping
can be cool if done right, will bump it up after your
review. Have never read Moby Dick, lol. I'm sure it's equal
parts literary masterpiece and nighttime sleep aid.

Discworld... some people seem to really like it. I read the
first book and couldn't get into it but may try again. I
hear it takes a few books to find its voice.

Subnautica was awesome! Best single player survival game
I've played, probably. I just finished it a few days ago. 48
hours playtime in a couple of weeks. I did have to look up
one hint (location of blue tablet), but it ended up being
somewhat of a bug that prevented me from finding it.

The recent spam is all great. I've been waiting patiently
for the next drukQs or something though... something that
really breaks the mold.

I like Discworld but first few books are A-typical of the
quality of the series as a whole, Mort/Pyramids/moving
pictures etc.. are much better

discworld series is pure satire. barely read it for the
plot. read about 6 of the 30 dw novels and it´s appeal to
me is just the way he portrays mankind and satires other
works of fiction. to watch how those odd yet so believable
characters act in their adventures. good writing is good
observation and pratchett had a very keen eye and was able
to put that into wits.

i've heard that recycle isn't picky when it comes to dicks
allegedly he is a follower of the principle "the more the
merrier"

This year but not necessarily from this year I’ve really
enjoyed:

Reading nearly all of Yoshiharu Tsuge’s works. What we do
in the shadows. Stath let’s flats. Autechre. Watching the
exorcist and rosemarys baby back to back. The social
dilemma. Zelda game and watch (links awakening). A pair of
trainers or two. Getting a new turntable. Fringe. The 40
year old virgin (for the fifth time). The office (US).
Radiohead’s a moon shaped pool. Walking more, and of
course Babu.

i tend to wait until the end of year lists, download the lot,
then get hideously pissed and declare on twitter that music
hasn't been worth listening to since 2005

well i've been writing 2 books so haven't put much time into
reading and only read one book this year and that's just
because i set aside time last week to sit down and read it
all in one day, which was neuromancer; my mom has thiftbooks
and sent some warhammer & battletech books recently. been
relearning latin, but don't think text books really count.
read darkhorse comics in the 90s and picked up a few of the
older aliens releases and been filling out my grendel
collection too.

haven't purchased any music at all this year (i buy cds, not
mp3s and just listen to youtube). getting better at
releasing music, so that's been my focus; don't allow myself
to listen to anything when working on it. definitely subbed
to quite a few small punk/metal channels throughout the year
though. only time i really tune into anything new is when
noisia uploads their weekly vision radio to youtube. kinda
gotten into city pop too aka 70s 80s era japanese
funk/jazz/pop.

been gaming on gta v for no other reason than my friends
have it and gaming these days is mostly about getting on
voicechat to keep up with each other. pulled my ps3 out so i
can play ps1 games on it and have been playing through
chrono cross while on the hunt for other older rpgs.

watched absolutely no new movies or shows for several years
now. i'm subscribed to a channel on youtube that uploads old
kung fu movies daily and at night i'll watch x files reruns
on comet tv which is a tv channel that has a website too;
got rid of all my streaming services years ago. hated
westerns as a kid, but have been watching a lot on youtube
lately.

mostly just done with consumerism & materialism and refuse
to give my time, attention, & money to the beast that is
hollywood & mainstream media & capitalism, so basically
don't buy anything new, watch anything new, play anything
new. there's plenty of old stuff to go back to & explore and
the only reason anyone consumes anything new is to talk to
all the other consumers about what they consumed and how
much they en
