...then we're into: did i do anything with Mannheim
Steamroller already? like MANNHEIM THRESHER sounds both
brutal and ridic, but that's just my first thought and i can
probably do more with this so let's not simply fire off the
cuff; Cool Band Names is srs

what's an umlaut in icelandic? is it still an umlaut, or is
it called something else? if so, what's the icelandic word
for umlaut?

thanks,
-- an american

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2024-03-13 18:10 [#02633457]
Points: 25264 Status: Regular

i mean. this is two question(s). 1) what is the umlaut
symbol called in icelandic, and 2) what is the icelandic
wort for the german umlaut symbol?

they can't call it an umlaut too -- because that's german,
not icelandic. unless it's an umlaut in both languages

nevermind. i was curious about pronunciation but i'm
realizing icelandic is probably worse than tolkein's elf
languages. which i took a genuine stab at in high school
before deciding i wasn't cut out for it

i would like to know the name of the typographic symbol tho

- The Phony Phonys
- The Phony Phony Ponys
- Phony Pony Phonies
- Phony Phony Ponys
- Komehova
^ this is like a skinny ~40-50yo black man
saying "comb-over" but it comes out like... Kom' Hova...
and, like, shit, i can do this accent just fine but... WHAT
KIND OF ACCENT IS THIS? curious

also what are your tricks for distinguishing flower and
flower in your band names? like, "air flow" vs. "flower
garden" because... Passionflowa... NO NOT FLOWER. ugh

some of these actually stay in the shop a while

For Free-For-One

comments: constructing an obnoxious band name that will get
transcribed as "4341" and then "For Free 41" and NO THAT'S
NOT IT EITHER -- For Free, Free For All, All 41, One 4 ALL

you see, like, CAM means Content Addressable
Memory and it's all in caps to denote is both an acronym
and... shift, shift key... and then a camSHAFT converts
rotating motion to reciprocating motion and if you remember
my metaphor of how consciousness, in a technical sense, is
like the serpentine belt in an automobile, and... hey! where
are you going?! i'm listening to chemical brothers does that
help? come back

HEH. beyond the fact that, how could i even prove it if i
did? i have no direct mental results to support this, but:

i don't think it'd have wound up at BARN if it weren't for
Elmer, whose name lives near quite a few barns

oh, hey. there's the evidence. but it's still a mere hunch

the ability to remember exactly what i thought, and replay
it. it's like muscle. there's natural gift, and there's
training. my legs have always been ridiculous, but it is
beyond hard for me to make my arms not twigs. i walk a lot,
which takes my legs further, then i was built to walk a lot,
so i walk a lot... i talk a lot... but i can also sit here
and say:

i remember my precise thought process picking the name Elmer
Ezekiel Pretzel. that i need to collapse the waveform on the
imaginary author of this imaginary nonsense article i'm
doing as content for a website with no particular plan; i'm
far enough in that i need to know who this is, exactly, i am
simulating. i kept recursively magnifying a bit of text, and
decided that sort of whoever was the voice along the way,
and now i need details to keep going.

that i was on a massive tear about pretzels, and that just
had to be in there. that was as much thought as i put into
that part. then i'm fussing around with different first
names, then middle names, then that first name with that
middle name and i could give details here but ENOUGH ALREADY
out comes Elmer Ezekiel Pretzel because i'm simulating a
polite ~50yo midwestern god-fearing man, one of those sorts
where you speak with him and he seems like a normal one of
these, but then he's into vampirism or something and "oh
it's not what it sounds like really" but there i went with
him working on fresh roadkill in his [barn?] lab with orgone
surgery machines.

it is only later that i think: ezekiel is one of those has a
meaning names, innit? then it's: sees spinning wheels. that
was when i was pretty sure i picked that name because of the
blade techno opener thread. a wheel and a pretzel? i've sent
myself a message in a bottle again, here

Aft Thunk is a sidechained french band and Gedaftenthünk is
a german thot experiment about sidechaining compression. i
have more, but i cast my eyes back on the landscape and,
really, these are the tops i have here
