lady gaga wanted to hang out with him and was starting to
chat a bit and then her crew got jealous and stonewalled him
off. that's all i know. that, and that he was almost
arrested for his performance at the isabella stewart gardner
museum

it was a big event to raise a lot of money for a foundation
and they invited rich people and a list celebrities. the
rich people come because of the celebs, pay lotsa money for
the entrance and also buy art shit from the foundation

i was one of the artist hamsters doing my performance
thingie. kinda showing the guests that there is actually
emerging art happening at the foundation

one of the a list celebs was lady gaga and at one point she
stood in front of me and stared at me, while i did my
thingie. a guy, the director actually, was touching her ass
and stuff and pulled her away from me. he was pretty drunk.
i thought it was interesting that gaga let him touch her
like that. maybe she is used to it.

i almost got arrested at the steward gardner museum because
tried to touch franz liszt's locks. isabella was such a
groupie

did you know that calvin harris is the biggest dj on earth
with a net worth of 300 milli?

i activated some ghostly sounds and visuals with a device i
build. kinda like a gesture synth. i like a simple, archaic
human gesture, cause i think we only have around 50/100
years left of being hairy emo balls, so lets live it

sounds like eyes wide shut a bit, was tom cruise standing in
a fountain of champagne rubbing his bell end with a ferrero
rocher?

nah, but lots of naked people. they were painted all over,
but still naked which was a bit weird

i went to another event where they had a garden full of
midget ponies and masseurs. damn, i should have gotten a
massage. i never ever got a professional massage, but these
days i really need one

unfortunately, the organiser of that event is dead now. too
many drugs. i remember her lying on the dinner table at one
point, all drugged out. her daughter was there, too. poor
kid. well, actually pretty damn rich kid. but poor soul

i think the dancing bit was when he thrust his hips into the
gesture synth.

anyway great story and fun sounding synth!

and man that atrium looks lush...
can we get a clip of the gesture synth.
would love to see folks pull faces on it.
does it play haromony smiling and disharmonic in frowning?

hey cool! thanks for the offer. i appreciate that profession
more and more. i went to a bonesetter twice in my life.
first when i was a kid. my neck was fucked up, cause i
always had to look to the right in class. so he organised my
neckbones which sounded like closing a huge zip. was pretty
good. but second time i went there 25 years later, i felt
awful afterwards. super dizzy and unwell. then i was reading
about all the dangers and will never do it again.

yes, it s different profession and indeed a bit dangerous.

but, gesture devices..
spending time on youtube now,
there is some gear out there.

like this

hainbach, hmm. i bet he is a sweet guy, but i find him
pretty bland when talking about his musical output. but to
each their own. also this ciat-lonbarde fanboyism i don't
understand. these instruments are more artworks on their
own, they are pretty well done, don't get me wrong. and by
calling them instruments i already give them a lot of
credit. but for me they seem to imply too much already. like
"make ambient drones with me, pronto!" i don't dig that. BUT
i really like the maker. peter is a super funny guy. when i
see him, im much more motivated to make up my own stuff than
buying his synths.

this doc is hilarious

i actually often used wii controllers for my gestural stuff.
you can also get an arduino, a bluetooth shield and some
sensors to build something yourself. for the next project im
thinking of buying the x-io through. because it also needs
to be working when im not there :D

x-io

you got a point there. i was intrigued by the design and
instantly felt that it looks so easy, yet beautyful, i could
play it (that maybe true or not)

thx a lot for that link. gonzo circuits video made me laugh
pretty hard. he just has a way of showcasing these partly
obnoxious gadgets like the vest with a seriousness.
geniuses, both him and the filmer. that cave sequence...
loved the sounds he made with the chaos knob and the sample
scrambler. that was pretty strong.

the power of maker videos is enormous. i sticked to gaming
controls so far. no programming skills needed. just building
and connecting switches for fun. now i wanna think up a
musical controller...

3 years ago i was determind to build a doorbell that would
play random melodies/sound frequncies for as long as the
button was pressed, altered if pressed again.
i thought this was probably pretty easy using the doorbells
electricity and a resonator box, but i never got into
finding out what kind of a circuit board i needed to pull it
off.

dadonck it's a cool story but i must confess i'm not as
impressed as i would be if you were dancing in a tin foil
suit and you were naked below and your penis was flapping
underneath the tinfoil suit as you danced in front of lady
gaga... and the director was fingering her but still it's a
cool story

im actually really sad that lady gaga got so many facial
operations already. she looked better before all that shit
:( now she looks like all the old ladies, that i have seen
at the event. they must all have the same doc

i was actually creeped out by the operated faces there,
first. especially, the very old ladies. there were just too
many, you gotta get used to that stuff

one time there was a very friendly old lady showing up at
the the entry of the foundation with her dog. she was asking
for the director. i couldn't tell where he was.

when she left i had this feeling that i knew her from
somewhere. it was actually isabella rossellini. i remember
it was quite a delight to see an elegant old lady who has
more facial expressions than mike myers

i build. kinda like a gesture synth. i like a simple,
archaic human gesture, cause i think we only have around

you know how people speak of "presence" in VR? as in, a
sense of actually feeling you're there, as opposed to just
playing a game in your living room... and it's hard to
describe unless you've experienced it, really.

i need a word for the inverse of this. for, like, instead of
me being present within an experience generated by a
machine, i extend my presence through a bunch of machines.

i first experienced this filming video. watching the LCD
screen intensely, the camera just... like, the camera is a
part of my visual perception stack as my corneas are. not
seeing through, but with.

perhaps i can call it gedaftenthunk, which is a
thought experiment involving turning yourself into a robot
in order to run drum machines better.

i guess it's like i've accepted some cluster of buttons and
knobs as i accept my left arm. you don't think about how to
move all the muscles, you just move it where you want to go.
operating on a more abstracted level.

i've had so many different setups, i move stuff around all
the time. so i've had to adjust over and over, and something
in he has kind of gotten used to it. and it's not like i
feel my ~consciousness~ extending into the machines, or
anything, so much as i'm rapidly constructing an
abstraction, a control panel, as it were.

anyways, my question: when you're using gesture control,
facial whatever, do you feel that sort of merge with the
machines?

or is it phone porn?
anyobody gotten the idea for a new camera thingie yet?
like an extension from the phone to your arm, hand, chest or
forehead? this could make billions...

the game controls i built are based on the gamepad
boardhacks, where you use old or cheap usb pads, keyboards
etc. to make your custom controls built into new casings and
connected to arcade buttons joysticks and the like. but
there are dirt cheap usb connectors from china now so you
dont need to hunt down and destroy old or cheap hardware
anymore.
so when i built a complete arcade cabinet with a crt and a
pc inside i thought there is more you can do with this.
after all lots of the fun in arcades is the weird
controls/simulators like bikes or skiing etc. so i used one
of those aracde usb pcbs for a 48cm wide pinball control
board to play pinball arcade on the pc with leftover arcade
buttons and some wood. made it the same color as my desk and
it sits under the desk behind the keyboard on the drawer to
pull out. i also put a button to the drawer so when i nudge
it its like tilting the pinball table.
another thing i built is a complete dance mat for
stepmania/ddr dance games out of foam and cardboard. (thats
a rather common diy whe you google this.) and a running pad
for olympic games out of foam and wire. you stomp on the
foam, wires close the circuit, release and the foam expands
breaking the contact. its really exhausting quivering the
legs to play the game :) wanted to do a punching game but i
still havent solved the mounting problem.

time and time again, i wonder what would be a fun usb
control to use in reason. and most of the fun i guess seems
to be in rotary knobs or wheels. or other analog mechanisms.
but i dont know a cheap pcb with lots of analog inputs.
maybe other more random and free inputs would be fun too
like a ball in a maze closing circuit wherever its rolling
along. hehe

if i wanted to build something for folks to learn and enjoy
id construct a step on thingie like the common key mats for
the floor. but let people just switch waveforms during a
running sequence while visualising them. maybe operate big
valves for filters too. ^^ yes definitely valves hahaha
