i am thx marco, my workplace was worked with the pumps, but is also out of trouble it seems. no people were on board of course. we regularly cross this bridge though. usually is quite a sight, with cormorants or great crested rebes which have a spot on the river to dry their wings after diving for fish. hope its not damaged. and hope noone else will fall unto the flood. our flat is about 20m above river level, or the height of a building i guess. so our street is out of trouble. there has been a constant sound of sirens for the past 48 hrs though which constantly reminds people are being busy, taking shifts in pumping and keeping folks out of the area. just 200m away. the garage i park and load the delivery van and the whole building was evacuated and was really lucky not to be the flooded. i loaded the van to eliver a few kindergartens on the parking lot today, while firemen were veering around their vehicles. the whole building is still closed, only the canteen is working, lol. yesterday when we got evacuated my boss insisted on washing dishes before he left. i left a bit before and told him to get the hell out and not use the elevators. i was relieved he left shortly after me. |

we´re lucky that a huge part of the ruhr river in my area is a nature reserve and meadows. they probably took a lot of the water. however its also where our freshwater is produced, so now we need to cook our drinking water. lots of tea these days. there may be a few houses lost, but fingers crossed, no deaths as in other parts of germany. people in a valley were surprised by it during the night and drowned when houses were taken away:/ |
