given the matter some thought and looking up klezmer in all seriouschness i have to concur with mr. hypes alternatively load up some classical instrument library and replay rhythm and melody with not more than two instruments. one being a flute like and a low counter bass cello like. see what the actual instrument of choice is in klezmer. |

oh, i quite remember my first listen to klezmer music. the background: when i was, like, 4, my dad dug his turntable out of the closet and put in a spanking new cartridge. i noticed this, and promptly went up and poked the new cartridge with my finger and broke it. my dad said, "oh well," and stored it back in the closet. approximately two years later, my dad tried again, and, i shit you not -- my sister promptly went and did the exact same thing, with the same level of prompt unhesitancy. this goes to the core of why i don't think i'll ever really actually want kids. they're horrible. i was horrible. my sister was horrible in any case, he waited quite a while after that, but finally he busts it out again, and three or five records in, he puts on a klezmer vinyl. which is, if you're too lazy to google, the manic music they play at jewish weddings with the chair hoists and all that. "it sounds like lots of little bugs dancing!" i declared. i was still pretty young. i genuinely loved the energy of it tho |

this is one of those moments -- some of my bad ideas are actually pretty good. i jokingly suggested a concept to a friend an album that consists entirely of covers of crystal method's high roller in varying styles so then i'm just making up various high roller remixes: high roller [smooth jazz version] high roller [unix diaspora megamix] high roller [deltoid variant] high roller [livecoded] high roller [planet humppa] high roller [klezmer redux in red] ...and then i'm thinking about, it, and, hell: a klezmer remix of high roller would actually work. i can hear it but, no, i don't mean busting out the multi-gig sample libraries. it's more about, well, obvious tempo difference. and i can hear how it should work in my head. i should probably just take a stab, really. but there feels like something something time signature in there; feel like if i just sit down and try to bang it out the riddim won't be proper klez |
