exactly what i predicted on [AH] ~ it is the previously
released "afx mode" firmware upgrade with a custom skin. you
could get a normal BS2 and just update the firmware for the
same thing.

also from what i understand, the BS2 is p. good and you
wouldn't do wrong acquiring one

i played around with a supernova II in guitar center like
twenty years ago and i still kind of want one today

man i dont listen/into gear so kinda ignored all the hype
and anticipating for this release thing as it had no bearing
but just the blinding expecatational let down from so many
people online was really off putting. any comments i veered
into on all the promotional posts were just in poor taste
like something better was owed to them or anything like
that. and just how vocal they are in being upset that it's
just X or that they didn't also get Y with it. so weird i
always thought the people who really were in tune with these
types of music could get around that natural habit of having
unrel expectations and what's worse is then loudly
proclaiming that to the world. off putting a bit and
especially from the product engineer's perspective , they
put out something they think is cool and to hear the most
vocal people being not about the kit at all but that there
isn't more aphex tunes associated with the release. wild!

the fans built it up into a big deal for themselves, i
suppose, not richard. he was pretty frank on the nature of
the project. kind of funny really

I wonder how much Novation paid him to use his logo/brand.

Anyway, I dodged the hype train by assuming it was just a
rebadged BSII from the start, because why wouldn't it be?
The real collab already happened last year. But I couldn't
help but think it be really cool if it had been some kind of
wacky drum machine. Which, I mean, I guess it is now, but
with a pointless 25-key keyboard if that's all you're using
it for.

I would have liked to see something with an on-board
sequencer and designed from the ground up in collaboration
with Aphex Twin. That would have made something special, I
think. Maybe. Or I should just shut up and buy a used BSII.

guys I have the AFX stattion luckily (last B-stock from
thomann) and its a hell of a machine, sounds like a 2x2m
modular wall, not a ordinary synth. this afx mode gave it a
coke up in nose.. ok, its just a BS2 synth but with a really
nice feel and a nice box.
Dont buy it for 408e haha.

so, i was interested in one -- you know what, alright, i've
always wanted a novation and even if it's a premium this
seems a proper excuse. and this sales guy from sweetwater is
my captive audience for a stupid rambly email about what i
might eventually want. he replies back to that bit, "oh,
yes, i'm waiting for one myself," and, go figure, i've not
actually seen it on sale, it's simply gone from "not yet on
sale" to "sold out" and maybe it would be more sensible to
get a normal BSII and upgrade the firmware as people blag
afx stations on ebay for a markup. he is laughing at anyone
that pissed on this; i'm sure

on a more serious note, quite on the fence about the font
choice. while i dig the 320x240 nostalgia, i dunno, doesn't
sit entirely right with the layout

yeah, ok, for real, that's a nice choice of font for the
larger sections, but everything else is just novation's
classy sans serif, calibri or something.

like -- if you're going to change the banner font, you
should make a secondary font choice for the smaller bits to
compliment it.

hell of an acid lord but as a graphic designer he's like
pickles and chocolate ice cream

how/do fonts influence the patch composition process? like,
you go to a prophet VS, very certain mood on those fonts

i can't say what i'd have gone with for the smaller font;
i'd have to research it for a while. but gut hunch is you
want an ALL CAPS, blocky font, more square than the larger
one, and, kinda, you want it to be a L.O.U.D.E.R. font than
the larger font, but then it's smaller. thin lines, moosh
towards a square. i'm learning fonts regularly, and i
actually know of the one i'm thinking of, but can't recall
the name. it actually could be the font you get on OS9
working in ResEdit when you get to some binary blob and it's
all ÄëǕ~[]

sorry, can't help myself
i'm peeing and i'm still thinking about fonts. i finish
peeing and i'm still thinking about fonts

the font that's all Master Oscillator, what's that, dunno. i
recognize it from old DOS games when you're in 640x480 or
above but the fonts are small. same feels in any case

then you want something that's mooshed towards squares for
all characters, thin but firm lines, still thinking of
ResEdit, or perhaps it was that horrid arcane debugger when
you hit apple+|<. but it was definitely a fixed with font
(like the one afx pickqd), derpy but prim. if we call the
larger MSDOS header font 14pt, it's this font i can't quite
place, that i am describing, 10pt

my consulting services are available, for the price of one
(1) long-term loan of one of the sixteen prophet vs
keyboards a bored acid lord has in his closet.

now, if you'll excuse me, i have a lottery to win.

I like elusive's response.

But, it's also funny. Some of us just enjoy playing around
with stuff. I don't follow any news on the subject, I just
buy some hardware from time to time, and mash on it. Not
very elegant, but enjoyable.

So, if something new comes out, that is different, and makes
my brain approach something in a different way. That's
always good.

And if RDJ got a couple dollars out of it, good for him.

I remember buying the Abe Cunningham (Deftones) signature
snare a few years back. Eye wateringly expensive for a
snare. And ultimately, I didn't *love* the sound.
But I went in thinking 'this will make me sound like Abe!'

And, that is idiotic of me. It's just a new toy, to use in a
new way for me. (that snare IS loud as hell though, it
sounds like a cannon).

I'd never heard of this AFX branded thing till now. If it's
a few more knobs to twist and buttons to toggle, and new
sounds for the brain. Sounds like a win to me.

Putting any more meaning into it, than that, well, seems
like a recipe for a letdown.
