covid has ruined

the value proposition of walmart. since covid, i've
thought: yeah, staying the fuck away from walmart. it's
cheap and it has a lot of stuff in one place, but i don't
want the 'rona.

now, i am moving, and i already have quite a few sterlite
crates, but i've blown through them like a cocaine analogy.
i need more bins. i have roped lewis into helping me this
round, and, hey, we're going to stop at walmart first.

i walk up to the entrance and see a few carts just kicking
around, so, hey, let's save the cart pusher man some effort,
i grab one and start rolling.

i am promptly yelled at. no, you can't go in that entrance.
i had only just got the cart and really i hadn't even gotten
as far as thinking, yes, i'll roll right through this door,
and i'm already being chewed out. lewis is kind to a fault,
and thanks the man very much. this is why we work together
-- i am a bit cantankerous, and he is kind to a fault.

so we wheel back, back, back... and there is a line, a line,
a line. at least two dozen people waiting to enter walmart.
i fucking hate going to walmart in normal times, and now i
have to wait on line for 45 minutes, and walmart is
officially no longer worth it.

fucker of it is, i really need more sterlite crates. should
i try the curbside pickup shit?

its a hassle, but i find some satisfaction in the fact that
its more troublesome to go in big stores and chains than
doing the groceries at the marketplace, or smaller vendors.

you could ask for boxes or crates at marketplaces or smaller
vendors, the asian/indian stores. lots of them just need to
get rid of them anyways. i know stores that keep them at the
entrance for customers to carry their goods home. boxes in
all sizes and they are as stable as the ones youd buy.

or try craigslist/private ads and pick up used ones.
people are clearing out like crazy since homeoffice etc..

if all else fails you know where to get some free carts .-)

if you want boxes, you can actually go on the US Postal
Service site and they will deliver a whole pile of flat-rate
boxes to you for free. then, yes, you can always go to a
package store and they'll give you a whole bunch that smell
like beer for free. i still have a bunch from my last move.
but, no, i've come to appreciate plastic bins as more
reliable

i looked into "curbside pickup" and none of the ones close
by offer it, and i have no idea if they need a day or two,
or what. i think i may just take lewis's suggestion and
unpack some for re-use once the stuff is over

doing it step by step is my preferred method anyways,
if possible. otherwise there is just piles and piles.
friend of mine recently moved again.
moved quite some times over the past years, always moving
200+ km so it pretty much had to happen in one go.

im comfy with boxes, perfect fill/packaging ratio and i
never had or took smelly ones. unpack, fold, repeat. what do
you do with all the crates then while you´ re living at a
place? resell or do youse them for storage after?

same. just pile up anything ready to go over, by the door.
bring it over, unloaded it into the kitchen at the new
place. return home and box more stuff up. the kitchen had
became full by this afternoon so i took a while to lug boxes
into separate piles strategically located throughout the
unit based on where the stuff should wind up. so, even if i
can't remember where i put something, i can just think, "oh,
i'd have put that with the office stuff" or whatever, and i
am compulsive enough that this rarely fails me. without some
sort of strategy i'd just hide everything on myself

what do you do with all the crates then while you´ re
living at a place? resell or do youse them for storage
after?

once they're empty they nest with each other and you stack
them all up into one compact pile, then all the lids on top
like playing cards, put 'em in the closet or something for
next time

i actually use quite a few even after moving, though, keep
my casios and old walkmen separated out from my stash of
electrolytic capacitors etc.

covid has ruined...

..the place i'm moving from, now that i think about it. i
used to be out most of the day, long commute to work, quiet
office. then i'm cooped up in a tiny place all day, the
religious institution next door sets up a playground outside
my window, i relapse on cigarettes, my landlady decides to
sell the house to the religious institution, two solid weeks
of chaos and construction and now it's ridiculous even
trying to get my stuff out, cars everywhere, dumpster in the
driveway.

today: i finish some extensive recuperative stretching, and
go out for a smoke. my landlady turns up and is all: yes,
yes, when are you going to be out of the unit? i've already
told her what i know a few times. there are some cars parked
near where i have to park, on the lawn (because of the
dumpster) and no, she has no idea who those people are. i
say, "well, maybe they'll be gone by the time i take a
shower" and we chat about moving and i suggest stretching
and have a nice day

then i get out of the shower, and one of the other tenants
is parked in the driveway, preventing me from backing my car
into place. this stuff is heavy and i am already dying and
goddamn it. so i ringer her bell and ask could you please
ask ford lady to move her ford and i am just pacing about in
the driveway in a froth until it finally happens.

like: you stupid cow. you hassle me about how soon i can be
out, i say i'm about to move some stuff over after a shower,
and then someone's blocking me from loading stuff up, and
djkgfdfg can you please just let me do shit.

as i am loading up the car, another one of her relatives
shows up and almost blocks the driveway again; thank god she
didn't.

i am always nervous if i am going to be able to park when i
get back home now. the new place has a garage

because i need an excuse to sit down for a bit, here are
some more pro tips:

- uline is amazing and get their starter packing tape gun
kit; thing could withstand a nuke

- generally slap some packing tape over the crate lids too
to keep things from jumbling about in the car

- also have a lot of sterlite plastic drawers. when moving,
you take little sections of packing tape, and put one on the
side of each drawer. that way you can just pick them up, lug
them around without anything falling out

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-08-31 04:16 [#02605796]
Points: 25264 Status: Regular

- plastic shelves. some of them are shit, but there are some
pretty high-test ones available, too. you take them apart
and it's just shelf layers and pillar rods and some feet and
endcaps and you don't have to give a shit because they're
all identical, interchangeable parts. you can throw all the
shelves into the car in a pile, all the pillar rods in a
box, the feet and caps in a ziplock, then just build the
shelves at your leisure

- plastic shelves are perfect for basement storage of
plastic bins

i had to deal with having a storage locker for ages, and i'm
so relieved to not have to do that, this round. this is part
of where the plastic bins and shelves came in -- this
storage locker is fucking expensive, and it's not even big
enough; how do i optimize space? the third dimension,
obviously. i went to home depo and got me some hdx plastic
shelves and ok this is much better than just stacks of bins

having just moved from a crappy, tense, weird situation into
a much more chillax environments -- i would add that even
the best drugs can't ameliorate an intolerable living
situation. and i don't even have the best drugs

yes, lets say more

most probably profiting from corona the cartels introduced a
new segment of the market consisting of nearly cbd
hash/weed, at the prices of before covid (average 10 per
gram), and to get stoned you have to paid 2-2.5x times more
than before

a happy joint has become once in a while for me
