Practically a Chinese Trojan horse that people stick on
their phones to spread stupid videos... never used it, never
will. Discuss.

Its weird how everyone is putting surveillance devices in
their own homes so willingly, i guess alot of it is
ignorance, i know im not on the ball as much as i should be

If you combine something like Amazon echo with strong AI its
a much scarier and complete idea of potential
totalitarianism than Orwell envisaged

yeah I don't trust these "assistants" - they're so slow and
useless anyway, I can search with my fingers much faster
than it takes them to process my voice and then give me the
result. Perhaps if I was disabled, I might reconsider a
voice assistant.

I think it's strange I could be having a conversation about,
craving a whopper for example, and next I know there's a BK
ad in my browser. They're already listening without our
consent, almost sure of it. Too many happy accidents like
this. *carefully corrects tin-foil hat*

dumb assistant

yeah, i've never wanted one these shits.... but i do have to
give alexa credit, there have been some moments.

back in the day, lewis had an alexa. one of his other
buddies was over and messing with it, saying all sorts of
filthy things to alexa. hey alexa! suck my dick

...and alexa promptly begins playing rudeboy by zed's
dead at high volume

another time, it was like 2am, and roommates and i were
crashed on the couch, some chatting, mostly fussing on
phones... and alexa activates during a moment of sheer
silence, begins to play some spooky music... later we looked
it up in the logs to see what triggered it and nothing was
there

i will use voice recognition to yell texts when i'm driving
and can't type, but that's about as much as i want it in my
life

i have boycotted most technology & big tech, at this point
it is all government controlled data harvesting schemes and
a way to create the means for turning you into an algorithm
for artificial intelligence to analyze, predict, recreate,
and replace. i strongly believe while you are
reading/watching media on your phone, the camera is
monitoring your reactions and putting a face to the content
you look up & absorb and how you feel about it. the new
phone i bought yesterday can be unlocked with a fingerprint
or facial recognition and has an entire section devoted to
biometric features in the settings. no thanks.

i have a coworker who will pull out his phone while we're
having a conversation because siri is talking back to him.
at some point one of us will have said something that siri
mistook as a command and she's trying to repeat it back. and
even though it's funny in nature because his phone is buried
in his pocket and we weren't actually talking to siri, so
whatever she repeats back has been completely misheard and
is always a weird garbled mess...he doesn't understand that
his phone is always listening. like he doesn't understand
that if his phone isn't always listening, then how can it
listen for it's name? how can it hear it's name? it has to
be listening all the time for it to be able to hear it's
name. i actually might have to stop sharing about more
'controversial' opinions around him at work even though
that's the majority of what we discuss.

guy had just gotten an xbox kinect with its three cameras

kinda weird where we may live in a society when that's less
dangerous than saying certain things in front of said
devices

in a switch for the microphone. it was for the best

* It collects every bit of data it can. (Far more than
Facebook, Reddit, Instagram, Twitter apps)
* It is obfuscated with OLLVM.
* App changes behaviour if it thinks it's being analysed.
* It has provisions for downloading a .zip and running an
executable from it.
* It wasn't using HTTPS for a long time (MITM attacks until
a few months ago provided emails, etc. etc., anything in
their REST API)

And you watch the general tone of media coverage of India
banning it as like 'lol they weird'.

It's basically malware
and also, where the fuck was it a year ago? Everyone is
acting like they always used it but afaics it was released
last Christmas along with COVID-19 so that we'd all stay at
home and funnel all our conversations thru Chinese servers

well steve, you've touched on something i brought up the
other day, where information will be stored digitally and
our future generations will learn from tablets and when they
begin to question what they're told, the information will
begin to change itself to match a narrative. the pages they
haven't read yet will reshape themselves to say something
different. the pages they have read will reshape themselves
to gaslight individuals into not believing what they read in
the first place. it's not like books, where what is written
is written and it either holds true or becomes outdated and
revised for the next edition. no the history & narratives
will be written & rewritten real time and no one will be the
wiser.

srs man, it's basically what it's made for, i don't mean
like bitcoin or a specific version of it, but it's the best
thing going where nothing can be edited, deleted etc.

yeah it's a nice technology, public ledger, quite useful.
but it's always fun to watch tech bubbles generate chaos
like that

do you remember whoopi goldberg's flooz? it's so
weird to look back on that now with bitcoin and blockchain

first dot com bubble was a nice ride. i made ten email
address on the email server i ran off my cable modem, ten
accounts, and for this, a now obviously defunct startup
called asimba.com sends me a free polar fleece. it has held
up amazingly; it blows my mind i got this thing twenty years
ago with fake email addresses and i still use it

we need to decentralize the internet. we need to create
multiple internets, pirate internets.

the real answer is to learn about about technology,
encryption, stay away from free services (because you are
the product), take control of as much of it as you can
stand. people whining about censorship on twitter, well,
hello, there's still a giant internet and you can still put
up a web page or some shit. jesus crap. i don't see why this
is so hard

Chinese overlords. They banned pro democracy Taiwanese and
HK peeps, even though the ceo is in America, his heart is

uninstall that shit.
