wiki calls these "sound trademarks" now, but i think "sonic
logo" is a much more functional name. it is what they do.

i remember hearing the intel sonic logo and thinking:
why, yes, the notes do kind of say "in-tel in-side." i'd
also say the note before that part is rather blue

then of course the NBC one also sticks out in my
mind

on the less-directly-tied-to-words front, there's obviously
the THX sound...

and of course the apple startup chime, and other noises. i have a
wavestation EX and i'm tempted to try it out

what are some of your favorite sonic logos?

real thread
theres a trend on British adverts for the last couple of
years that everything has to have a little jingle at the end
- like, the name of the company with a tiny bit of pointless
music, even if the ad had no music itself.

There's one that makes me want to kick the fucking telly in
where the name of the company doesn't fit the meter, and I
can't even fucking remember the name of it now.
THX FTW, you will never beat that... It was made in a C
program IIRC, thousands and thousands of sinewaves..

i heard there was a film out recently where one scene had
the THX blow out the windows of a building... I like it when
they cum together, ahem

yeah, i've seen that writeup before, good read. this is,
like, the third time this has come up -- james moorer's
site is great. i remember in, like, 2017, writing a long
post about this site that looked like a fucking angelfire
page by some guy that worked for lucasfilm designing the
first non-linear audio editing setup and obviously i found
it eventually

but a bunch of stuff is no longer there, or i have it
wrong... because i remember some schematics for sound droid
in a pdf, motorola 68k hehe

IRCAM, CCRMA, NeXT, Lucasfilm ... i don't like CVs but thats
a good one!!
(I forgot too, the guy who invented a weird old loop optimisation techique did so at
Lucasfilm)

it's nothing as cool as the THX but the 20th Century Fox
fanfare horns are certainly cemented into the mass psyche

LAZY_TITLE

does have a very strong here-you-are architecture to it.

yeah, exactly. i think moorer is a genius but he seems
pretty sorted; he's off quietly fixing tube radios or
something now

>>> he's off quietly fixing tube radios or something now
Loads of those 'old' sorts have stuff like that now...
I bumped into Alan Cox recently, and what he is doing is now
is making an 8 bit OS and writing poetry (after retiring
from job at Intel) ... liccle projects like going back to
playing with their trains.. can't blame them.

heh, not quite what i meant. your other reaction was more on
it -- "Hah, OMFG i should know this" -- like, oh, hey, it's
james moorer. again

TMRC launched hacking and now all the old hacks
are returning to their trains

Aye it's a total segue what i was on about in last post
i dunno if u wanna talk about reverbs or not now lol

I often think of TMRC... i mean, clearly not everyone's
interest in computers came from it, but everyones interest
in computers is like joining in a miniature world in the
same way... and then there's all the little rules that are
require to make stuff like open source things work...

post-doc work at MIT and brought me there once. didn't
