I saw the game trailers, 90% of them didn't look like games i recognise, everything looks like a flat shaded walking simulator. I think gameplay purity is dead now, Im also fed up of the fantasy tropes and shit anime. Perhaps its me and im just to old

I'll defintely buy a ps5 but from the game trailersI'm not sure many games will suit me now I'm a middle aged 'cunt'. Resident Evil Village looks superb, but other than my desire to play the next GTA game, the only one from these trailers I'm most curious of, is Stray and Returnal.

incredibly complex, movie-grade cutscenes can be reliably manufactured at-scale by large corporations, while clever, original concepts are too risky when millions are at stake

honestly, i think you guys are just looking to the wrong chaps for your games. it's the same as movies have become -- any movie that's going for a nation-wide theatrical release has hundreds of millions at stake. they have to churn out a million unbiodegradable mcdonalds cups with graphics for the movie all over it, and if all those cups don't sell, someone won't get their $5mil bonus
meanwhile, thanks to technology, independant filmmakers have never had it so good. with netflix, the web, they do not need theaters anymore.
similarly, with games, there are lots of small teams of normal people putting out quality games on steam. it's not like the 90s where your only real choice was going to CompUSA and seeing what's on the shelf.
if you look to shiny new console launches, however, make sure you get that special deal on the mcdonalds cup with the new spiderman game graphics

Never played the original not sure the remake will resonate with me though.
It's weird considering I'm old enough to remember the original Atari console. All games are an improvement since then but little beats the N64 period of games for me, despite the obvious advancement.

demon's souls is honestly one of the greatest games, i like it so much better than the dark souls that followed. classy and smart and gloomy and great music. after dark souls was released it gradually devolved into a boring formula of epic bosses pRePaRe To DiE bravado because i guess that's what sold. (dark souls 2 is interesting because it's weird and messy, probably the one closer to king's field in mood. i like it alright.)
the remake looks visually messy and they absolutely ruined the music but hopefully that's just for the trailer.

Hopefully my inexperience of the original will allow me to to really appreciate the remake.
Visually all games look spectacular to me, but a lot of games just end up with a very dull repetative game play that relies solely on rapid response.
Now I'm older, open world platform games such as fishing in the lakes or Read Dead 2 keep me hooked (no pun intended)

I thought the film like games would take off and the cut scenes would validate them.
I'm a huge fan with LA Noire, and Heavy Rain. if you could merge the gameplay of those of the Brothers in Arms series, I'd be gaming most of the day.

or fishing in the lakes in red dead 2. Perhaps that is what you meant.
RDR2 is slow but enjoyable. Kind of drags and makes you canter across the countryside for no apparent reason other than to soak in the landscape. You've got to feel the vibe otherwise you won't have a very good time.
Same goes for LA Noire. Really liked the tone of that game. Also is one of those games you can play with people around and they might look over because it sounds interesting.
