multitrack
sort of a hybrid approach i haven't tried before
recorded a base track with drums and fx for the whole
length
after that it's playing whatever keys i feel, keep the bits
that sound good
play more keys based on what i kept
sneak in with some eq and level automation
a little dash of dfx buffer override for that noughties
flair

i think it turned out well enough and was thinking of doing
another with the same process but i wanted an opinion. seems
like i should; thx.

well sure.... but how?

i'm still working in milkytracker -- you've asked about when
more of that was coming. answer is, it's gotten overbuilt,
still working on trax, but it takes me ages

as occasional laugh i'll go over to the living room and bang
around on synths. plenty of wank live jams on my soundcloud
of that nature.

but then, if i'm not just banging off some live keysmashing,
what do i do? there have been some aimless multitrax,
but those were not much more interesting than the totally
live bits.

for "i am distracted" i actually programmed up a bunch of
drum synths in cubase and sequenced the drums in midi,
started adding synths when i had about half of the track.
lots of editing, took too long really

i felt having a drum track before playing keys gave me
focus, but programming it felt more like effort i should be
putting into milky. so, i thot, "let's do a drum track with
live hardware instead of programming it"

i need a drum machine.

first minute or so i found irritating, but it really gets
going about halfway in. the delay and close-together notes
work much better than running up and down scales. by the end
i really liked it. deez r my thots

korg volca drum is so cool man, see if you can find a
bargain somewhere online. it's digital but it does drums
really well even FM synthesis.

got a bent casio i haven't used in, like... years. even a
decade. but the thing has 9 million switches i put in and
they all shuffle the drum patterns. thinking about digging
out that

problem with it is, noisy as all heck. hissss
what i always wanted out of it was triggers. i had some
scheme in mind with fiddly envelope followers but i kind of
knew that was a waste of effort

working on the sk-1 i learned that a lot of the casios have
boilerplate mixer sections; i could probably bodge in a
direct out for the drums before the mix/amp stage for less
hiss

but that's all theory; probably won't get to it any time
soon. no, was merely thinking: dig out that bad boy and do
the drum track with that next time

what i really want (back) is an mpc 1000 with JJOS2
was already sold on the volca; have been for a few months
both cases, answer is the same: i'll need a new car soon,
who knows if i'll still have a job in a few months, and i've
already spent more than i should on stuff i'll have to leave
behind should i have to flee the flaming ruins of america
