Would you rather (a) be innocent and get torturted to death
in a prison-camp or (b) be the torturer who tortures the
innocent person?

well, the right answer is (a), obvs

are we assuming the role of torturer is taken on voluntarily
though? if not, then having that as yr job would be "as bad"
as being tortured; at least if you pick (a) you don't lose
yr humanity. imagine going home to dinner with the family
after a day's screaming and mutilation

i think most people would be all "oh, of course i'll pick
(a)" but as they're screaming and gradually getting tortured
to death i'm sure amongst the screamed dfjgkdfg would be an
honest question: "IS IT TOO LATE TO CHANGE TO (B)?"

(c) stand up, flip desk over, walk out of ethics class,
march straight to the department hed, demand to switch
majors

are impossible-to-answer philosophy questions a form of
torture?

we all got to go sometime, and if someone is being tortured
then it must be their karma, and I am just a cog in their
wheel

So you think before Socrates went on trial and was
sentenced to death he should have just left Athens and have
stopped philosophizing in public - as many Athenians
suggested to him?

I know it’s not an option, but I would rather torture
myself to death. I don’t have to torture an
« innocent » person, and don’t have to let an
« innocent » person go through torturing me to death.

is it torture to make another human torture another human?
why do you not help the fish? because you are a fish
too

The truly ethical answer is to simply say "not on my watch"
and shoot the prison camp guards.

Ethical, and manly, too. A perfect blend.

I like the character in Iain Bank's amazing novel Transition
where the torturer character, through some rift in time and
space, ends up anticipating himself (*spoiler*) torturing
himself.
