hey yall putting an alpha version of this ASCII game project on itch today https://www.temporary-url.com/AB7AA
it uses FMOD for audio and runs in a terminal. you can actually run it from linux console without a desktop. also on windows. need to get a mac to get some macos builds eventually. um ya, if you run into issues you can post on the project page or come to the discord: https://www.temporary-url.com/7DE49

honestly i havent played long enough that one colony has eliminated the other.
it takes about 6-7 food to produce a raider ant (i think there should be some code so that older guards/scouts eventually become raiders but i'll have to check that its in there). raiders do a random walk until they find either a threat trail left by a scout, or a food trail for the enemy, in which case they are supposed to follow the food trail back to the enemy nest. you can help them a bit by selecting one and manually walking them to the part of the map you want.
in future updates i'll try and tweak things so a better flow gets established. i haven't really stress tested so im not sure what kind of unit counts are possible.

guess i should clarify it was intended to be a sandbox or "virtual terrarium" more than an RTS or sim with a specific goal of winning. you could probably just dig a colony with a good layout and then deselect the queen to let things evolve on autopilot.
