oh i used a korg ms2000 as aux FX for years to do this sort
of thing*. and a presonus bluetube

i like the "it has a large sweet spot in between fading off
and going crazy" bit

interested in this because i still miss my ms2000 for that
stuff

*with flange rate, flange mix, delay rate, delay mix as 4
knobs on a novation remote sl 25 and then cutoff/res on the
touchpad. but it was weird because they defined six zones
and i just sort of mussed with the parameters until it felt
right

of my budget (unfortunately)

the microfreak? yeah, looks interesting

but what's that little sampler he's using? haven't seen it
b4

(i'll check out the ms2000!)

the mod matrix is not truly modular, but there's enough
flexibility that you'll be able to do most of what you want.
the 3x step seq is great if you do things like set one
oscillator to "digital waveform" and then have the step
sequencer switch the waveform each step. the overall sound
was good by VA standards of the time, but, well, it sounds a
bit thin and plastic overall. eventually, i wound up using
it for certain sounds i knew it would nail, but, otherwise,
mostly, as an aux FX unit. a lowpass filter, minimal step
seq that could be mashed with arp patterns, an untweakable
but alright distortion buttons, some assignable knobs that
could let the LFOs (midi sync available) job about the
cutoff and envelopes, then into the FX, it has two. they
each have a different set of things like reverb and echo and
whatever, but i always left it set on "flanger" and "tape
delay." then i mapped all the relevant CC to a novation
remote, turned the second oscillator down, and fed aux2 from
my mixer into the ms2000's audio in. aux1 i generally had
assigned to my paia fatman, modded for audio input, and i'd
fuss about dub style with everything from there: feed stuff
into the fatman, feed the fatman into the ms2000, feed the
ms2000 into the fatman, and also back into itself so i could
make the delay loop more reliably. often i threw something
else into the loop, most notably a digitech metal master
(great on an sh101) and a presonus bluetube. generally,
though, i reserved the bluetube for kick drum samples from
an mpc 1000

i read a comment of someone that said they'd fallen out of
love with the synth and they couldn't get the 'glassy' sound
mixed in right
