Absolutely blasted that on my mega drive for like 6 months,
only new game I had that year I guess. Was obsessed with
finding secrets by spelling words picking up items in a
certain order

I didn't really ever get to play 8bit or 16bit games, as I
never had the consoles. When I was a kid I had a Spectrum
48K, and the next thing I had was a PC in about 98, so I
even largely missed out on DOS games.

However with the arrival of Master Wilco some 15 years ago,
he's always been an avid gamer (trained him up on my
GameCube, then onto Wii, Wii U and Switch (he's well
Nintendo) but also emulators and PC gaming) and has always
had a penchant for "retro gaming" and our absolute FAVES of
FAVES are Mother 2 (Earthbound) and Mother 3 for the GBA (I
did get him a GBA to play it on, before we played it on the
Wii) ... very emotional pair of games (The first Mother is
good too, but has this annoying thing where you are attacked
every 2 minutes and makes exploring horrible) ... the music,
the story, the atmosphere... I get a bit teary just thinking
about them now.

He has posted!

Never played the first mother game, which I hear is really
grind heavy. I’m not a fan of not being able to explore
without constantly being drawn into a fight, like you
describe. On the other hand I’ve olayed earthbound only
recently and absolutely love it! Brilliant game.

This made me laugh!

Looks ace. I’m happy with my 2DS I guess. You can have
access to a library of game boy and game boy d’avance and
DS games. I haven’t used it much but got ocarina to play.

Right now the best way for me to play game boy games is on
the regular ds. I still have some gb carts but my game boy
got stolen (incidentally along with ocarina n64 cart)

seems like a lot of money, with adapters for anything but
gameboy cartridges sold seperately. mind there are also no
games coming with it either.
and what exactly is the use of high resolution display for
retro games? it doesnt enhance graphics, or does it?
the built in synth may be fun though. hows it played?
tracker?

i always watched pc engine reviews into defunct videogames
magazines with admiration, for the outstanding graphics
compared to the consoles at the time

Analog products are expensive, reason being I think because
it’s not using an emulator but actual dedicated hardware.
1440p does seem overkill for gameboy games but I imagine the
lines would seem nice and sharp (like a high ppi e-reader).
Not sure how the synth works, tracker would make sense…

+ I think it's made for people who already have games and
want to play in the best possible way, albeit expensive
