Fugees were a bit cheeky with that one but it was all
resolved amicably in the end. I remember hearing it watching
some American cop show, criminal minds i think, while a
family is being burning alive by a man in their house. It
worked. I then saw about three episodes of criminal minds in
the next few months and they were really good so I started
watching and I never really saw a good episode again. Ah
well.

i looked up her castle on wikipedia and apparently she got a
panic room put in and had to use in 2005 after someone
busted in and tied up her maid

seems like being that rich and famous is a bit of a pain in
the arse.

Since the 1980s, Enya has attracted the attention of
several stalkers. In 1996, an Italian man who was seen in
Dublin wearing a photograph of Enya around his neck stabbed
himself outside her parents' pub after being ejected from
the premises.[115] In May 2005, Enya applied to spend
roughly £250,000 on security improvements, covering gaps in
the castle's outer wall and installing bollards and iron
railings.[112] Despite these improvements, in October 2005,
two people broke into her home; one attacked and tied up one
of her maids and left with several of Enya's items after she
had raised the alarm in her safe room.[116]

there's a world of difference between a pub and a dive

would suit your fancy

when i was still in my late teens and just getting into
music and circuit bending, i thought, i know what i need:

- a moderate house surrounded by trees, minimal neighbor
presence but still ten minutes away from a grocery store.
feeling of privacy at home but still easy access to
civilization
- a workshop, nothing fancy, circuit building stuff mostly,
just enough workspace and maybe a drill press
- a studio for music, office for computer stuff
- enough income to buy something like a new synth once or
twice a year
- complete ownership of my time

the last part is the most important

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-03-02 01:28 [#02596151]
Points: 25264 Status: Regular

i was pretty close, from like 2010-14. but then my whole
life collapsed and i'm only just getting back out of debt

both a blessing and a curse knowing that i could be happy
the rest of my life just working on my projects, following
my nose... but, financially, i have to sink most of my
time/energy into work just to pay off for the last stretch
of that. the idea of buying a house just blows my brain up
even still, but maybe in a few years. then some renewable
income like write a book or something that keeps generating
without me putting in hours. i dunno, i haven't given up,
there's just a lot to deal with in the here and now

meanwhile, enya technicals; she loves the juno 60

i remember what you wrote in the coronavirus thread

my worst time was from 2013 to 2017. i left a girl after a 3
year relationship and wasn't satisfied with anything i did
and my situation in general. i lived in a big wg in berlin
which was like a crazy fucked up hotel. also the city was
just sucking off all my energy and i had a hard time finding
space to breathe. i got exhausted just taking public
transport. i think i don't have a very good filter built in,
its just everything always at 100%. at one point i started
using earplugs outside…

maybe it was a burnout, i don't know. i just lost all my
mojo and my satisfaction for most things. everything became
a drag and i said fuck it and i had about a year where i
didnt really do much besides worrying and having a bad shit
every morning

lately, i just finished paying off all my dept. it wasn't a
huge amount, but im glad i don't have to think about that
anymore. i just bought my last modules for my modular rack
and im only missing a midi merger and a multi effect for my
mixer (anyone uses a Lexicon LXP-5???), then ill stop buying
stuff

i don't have any savings, i don't collect benefits for my
retirement or have a plan for more than 3 years, but im glad
im here and im having fun again. and i try to prepare myself
for the next downswing

yup, its a poopyduhhh-everyone-nows-that but what i learned,
from my experience(s) in nerves and flesh is that life is an
up and down. when i was down, some friends had their up. now
im fine and they are fucked. i just know that life can get
better. and sometimes you can just wait and wade through it.
of course money helps a lot. so keeping a job that is ok is
already half the work

i had some mfb stuff back in the day, and it was barely a
step above a pre-assembled hobby project. like, it worked
fine, but the buttons, interface were complete shit. i sold
off the mfb-502 reasonably quickly, but i did get midi2cv
mileage out of a step64 for quite a bit longer

in the sense of pure spirit, what i miss most is having an
sh101. practically, though, i should get an mpc1000 with
jjos again, or figure out something equivalent

then the prophet vs was also very special

you are right, mfb is not the best quality. before the
volcas and behringers they were the cheap synth guys.

i couldnt get a tanzbär make a beat, without the manual in
a shop. the interface is pretty bad.

and the first delay module i got from them was missing a
button. how in the hell can that get through inspection?

but that synth sounds friggin awesome

i sold my sh101 and other stuff (tr606,…) in around 2010
to get enough money to move to canada. was definitely worth
it. i bought this stuff when it was moderately priced and i
would never buy an overpriced vintage synth today

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-03-04 00:43 [#02596200]
Points: 25264 Status: Regular

in general, you're right. most of it is overpriced, now.
but, i dunno, once you spend a few hundred hours with a
particular synth, it starts to feel almost like a pet. in
that regard, the SH-101 and the Prophet VS were the most
personal to me, and i could see myself paying handsomely to
have either back, in the eventuality that i can afford it
again, because i miss them quite much. had i not that
history, however, i would have no desire to acquire them for
$$$, and that's how it is for most everything else. newer
cherries like the microfreak seem much more bang/buck unless
it's personal

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-03-04 00:45 [#02596201]
Points: 25264 Status: Regular

and, yeah, i bought the SH-101 for $600 in 2009, sold it for
$900 in 2014ish. i imagine it's over a grand, now.

the prophet vs probably hasn't sailed as much in price, but
i wager it's probably a bit under 3x what an SH-101 would
cost

Anyone. In my neighbourhood I chat every day with the older,
lonelier people. I always take the time. That’s an example
amongst a few. Basically I don’t mean financially because
I simply can’t. But by being a kinder person and giving my
time to people I feel it’s a start. There a people around
me who need a bit of human warmth and companionship and for
me it’s a place to start.
