I get the feeling you don't like me cos you always seem to
disagree with 70% of what I write, have I done something to
you to piss you off?

one of lifes mysteries why amiga was massive in Europe but
wasn't adopted much in US, guess PC came to prominence
earlier in US

but, yes, 112%, as a US lad in the late 90s i heard 0% about
amiga. it's only getting older, into history, that i
appreciate that one. DOS tracker music is ground zero for me

the continental Europeans especially the Scandinavian
countries were the best at this sort of thing, I reckon
probably cos its so bloody cold and dark half the year
that's why they spent so much time on their amiga, but
really they were amazing at it

he made it with Impulse Tracker in DOS, and with that,
convinced me to switch from acid + fruity to impulsetracker
for a bit. then modplug, where you could use VSTs too

have you had a mess around on renoise?

i've been through a period of a good few years in which i
haven't had fucking crap with which to make music. my choice
of milkytracker was squarely based upon: it is free, open
source, and actually runs on my trashy old linux laptop.
renoise, frankly, seems like a next logical step -- actual
DAW facilities instead of being a joke -- but it's not free,
and so far i've done them the (dis)service of not pirating
it. but, generally, renoise seems mustard

yeah its good, I have a really old version, I probably still
prefer Cubase, but if I can rewire renoise with Cubase that
would be the optimal setup for me, cos a tracker is
fantastic for doing drums

I know nobody asked but Renoise is great. Relatively
inexpensive compared to other "daws" - and has a nice
workflow.... inspires me to make things more than anything
else.

Used Jeskola Buzz for many years. Then found Renoise a
couple of years back. Runs on a potato 🥔

people always seemed super into buzz, but i didn't like it.
stuck with modplug for a bit then switched to reason for a
year or two

i never got into trackers or the whole daw shebang. actually
that's not true, i had music 2000 on playstation and rave
ejay on my old 486 but they barely qualify. gimme a cracked
version of wavelab and i'm well away. i need to be up to my
elbows in .wav samples to be happy. age 11 i messed around
making live ambient washes n stuff on my dad's sampler but
wave editors are my sheez, you can get proper anal control.
yeh, i dunno where i was going with this but i've typed it
now

it's mad to think that the guy who originally made the first
tracker - Soundtracker isn't it? - must have spent liek two
weeks or summat thinking of the simplest possible interface
that would work & be useful, and ppl are still copying it
today...
