Sorry for your loss mate. Dogs might as well be kids
sometimes with the connection that we have to them.

Hope you’re doing ok at least.

i was sad to hear about kobe, but i'm even sadder to hear
about this. dogs were central to my family growing up and i
remember getting the call in college, first time i ever had
to deal with that. i wrote this song later that day;
perhaps it will help. best wishes

Thanks, it means a lot.

Mo, he died of heart failure on my bed. The last few days he
couldn’t walk more than 15 meters without collapsing.

It will be two weeks tomorrow and I simply can’t get over
it. I loved him more than I love any human. A part of me.

I will eventually go for that relationship again. For now
it’s time for grieving. My God it’s hard.

Merci Juliette.

yeah, when the big ginger cat i'd grown up with died i was
heartbroken, but getting another moggy did help. you
definitely need a period to mourn though, it's probably even
harder with a dog, they give love so unconditionally.
thinkin of you anyway

For sixteen years we were day and night together. He
travelled everywhere with me, every part of my routine was
with him. I’ve lost pets and cats before but this is
beyond surreal. I was closer to him than I’ve ever been to
a being. We were symbiotic.
I hear a love song now and I instantly think of him. Such a
character, such personality. He was perfect. Life is absurd,
and isn’t it funny I named him after Albert Camus!? Life
is absurd but we spend most of it convincing ourselves of
the contrary. Some of us by being dumb, some by being
clever.

i think the best approach is to get a puppy straight away;
your feelings are still there and will perhaps transfer a
bit to the young whelp, the wheel of karmic return is more
of a moving average, i feel. invest your feelings of loss
into a pup

a rebound dog, that's just disrespectful

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-01-31 01:54 [#02594059]

it's about

a) dog is gone and no amount of mourning will bring him/her
back
b) being miserable out of honor will not bring him/her back,
and if dog were there, dog would be sad you're sad and want
you to do what it took to fix it
c) getting new dog now while the feelings are fresh
optimizes your odds of lucking out with dog that has the
same sort of spirit

LAZY_TITLE ~ probably the most interesting thing
bloomberg has done to date; a vastly unorthodox yet
ultimately successful candidate/dog meet 'n' greet. grabbing
dog's snout is not something to be done casually, but you
can see dog yawn was interrupt and dog fully yawn after
snout handshake

my former dogs, well, i could have done that and not worry
about upsetting them. but to snout-handshake a dog you've
just met does take a certain level of dog depth

or perhaps it was all staged to make bloomberg seem like an
actual human.

dog speedrun, racking up the dog points with optimal dog
strategy

hey, like, i miss having a dog. part of it's that. i had a
run of bad luck for a few years, i had to move from place to
place. even still, my lease does not allow dogs. there were
times when i was lucky enough to live in places that also
had dogs. so, i'm like: you have the time and space in your
life to get a dog, and you don't want to? i am jealous of
what you are pissing away

one place i rented a room for a bit, i visit to interview to
be a member of the household, and the guy says, "ok, i'm
going to introduce you to do the dog."

the dog is a belgian malanois, pretty much the beefy german
shepherds they use in django unchained. he brings the dog
out, and the dog has a muzzle on.

but i know dog. i sit still and let him sniff me over. i
give him a pat. the muzzle is taken off. i am given some
advice: play fetch with him; he will be your friend for
life

i start playing fetch with him. he is beside himself. when i
moved in, i was still cautious for a week or two, but after
that i'd motion for him to hop up on the couch and give him
a hug. that household was also a mess, sketchy, in a sketchy
area, and knowing that dog would, without a doubt, bite the
shit out of anyone he didn't know that came in the house, it
did help my sense of safety in a shitty environment. but i
felt like dog owner and the other roommates did not treat
him very well; he seemed almost depressed at times. i
remember it was "national dog day" or something, according
to the news, and no one was home, he was just sort of "bleh"
on his bed and i promptly did everything i could think of to
spoil him. fetch, a moderate helping of pizza, etc.

he was a good dog, but much better was the place with a
white german shepherd and two huskys

for the moment, however, i am dogless, and why would you
hesitate if you could get a dog?

w/rt to the belgian malanois: LAZY_TITLE ~ it's hard to
describe how incredibly large and huge the muzzle/teeth are
until you've seen it in person. compared to, like, a lab,
it's easily 3x the biting capacity

offline EpicMegatrax from Greatest Hits on 2020-01-31 02:25 [#02594064]

he would reliably chew up anything left on the floor. i
always winced when he chewed up beer cans. worried he'd cut
himself. he always seemed to wind up perfectly fine however

it's not a speedrun, it's just nice to have a dog about, and
i must confess i miss having a dog about.

my lease says no dogs. for work, i'm out of the house ten or
twelve hours a day; sometimes more. that wouldn't be fair to
a fully-grown dog, let alone an untrained pup.

if you abstract dog personality into human sentiment, dog
would be sad you're sad and would want you to move on so you
can stop being sad. i'm gone, yo, and i hate to see you cry.
please form another connection so you can feel better

Hey Horsefactory! Lovely to see you around! Miss our chats!

Epic, I will eventually go for that dog/human relationship
again. At the moment it’s all about Albert though, like
Tony mentioned I’m not comfortable with “replacing”
him so soon. I need to mourn.

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate everyone pooping in to
say a few words!

she's usually full of energy and pouncing on the work tops
but there's been none of that for the last 2-3 days. she's
sleeping a lot and looks depressed.like her eyes are half
shut all the time, while her brother fenix is full of energy
and his eyes are wide open.

Sometimes cats get dehydrated, especially if they mainly get
dried food, and it can make them listless like that. Make
sure there's fresh water, wash the water bowl often, you
might even try giving some water with an eyedropper.

Do the test for skin tenting
