youtube has put on "blowout" and it's the perfect cadence
for balling up socks. four bars per pair. two minutes all
balled; record time

update: "wide open" is not nearly as effective for unloading
the dishwasher

update ii: "wide open" was totally useless as i attempted to
replace the battery in a smoke detector. not only does it
employ a 9V that reliably dies every few months, it is
plugged into some cable in the ceiling for, i guess,
redundancy. getting it down was no big chore, but it's right
up above a giant pile of my shit and i'm standing on my toes
on top of a comfy chair straining to reach forward and
reconnect the cable when it starts to beep madly. startled,
i drop it. beeping loudly, it hurtles towards the hardwood
floor and the battery launches off somewhere. shit, shit. if
this breaks, i'll have to buy a new one. how much do these
things cost, anyways? $60 at least. you can do better
crystal method

wouldn't that be ironic, though -- if i died doing
maintenance on a safety device and breaking my neck via
falling into a pile of electronics crap i should have gotten
rid of

smoke detectors are purposely mass produced electronic waste
for about 1 token of your local currency. while they
installed mine one of them failed to work practically out of
the box. the 9V battery is worth more than the trashy
compartment its inserted to and i dont want to make
calculations as to how much hazardous waste all the battery
dumping is going to cause. everybody is supposed to have
these fuckers now, while basically their only practical use
(if they work properly) is to wake up your sorry ass when
you fall asleep drunk and smoking, which according to my
friends who tried hard on a daily basis never ever produced
a fire in decades. neither did pots and pans left on the
stove nor frozen food in the oven for 6 hours. (it actually
turns to charcoal, quite impressive). so, where was i, yes,
practical use of the alarm. i reckon there may be a slight
chance it woke you up, if there was (how on earth would
there be a fire?) in your room. if there was a fire in the
house, neighbours apartment etc. youd be either fried or
rescued by the firefighters by the time the smoke went
through the corridors to choke you. well and to actually
answer your question an alarm costs around 6 bucks over
here. that is a bargain opposed to the nerve these fuckers
may cost you. the landlord was over to install the fuckers
when we moved into a new apartment this summer. he claimed
these were easy to use cause they came with doublesided
adhesive tape and magnets. so after a day or two i now have
a nice magnet on the ceiling held by adhesive tape, with the
detector lying on the floor, cause it fell off right away. i
took the battery out of the one in the floor of my gf, cause
it went off all the time and my gf landlady was a (FF C#NT)
who didnt repair anything including radiators and hot water
in winter unless you withheld her rent and in my old
apartment the electrician who cost the landlord a fortune
had to come out twice cause the fucking thing went off
without any reason cause they are cheap garbage products.

whoever sealed the deal with politics to make these
mandatory probably made a fortune. he may have actually
saved a life though so i keep my mouth shut now.
just dont break your necks while installing them.
