the one this guy recommends. it's not being made anymore. people in the comments are saying that the original 303 has the same properties this guy likes. it does sound sweet, though

ohhh, this thing with positive/negative parameters. lots of synths have that, especially if you get into modulars. what he seems to be hung up on is "this is the best 303 interface" and if you got something modular you could totally do this yourself and more. but i'll agree with him on that level, seems like it's a superb layout
i remember on the sh101, trick i'd occasionally use was to mash the attack all the way up to shift the timing of the notes
anyone remember the futureretro 777? how is that thing? is futureretro still about?

i bothered mike dred on MYSPACE back in like 2007 or something asking all: what's the best 303 clone? are they all shit?
he had some stuff to say about a few of 'em, but what stood out for me was "with roland system 100 you can get that sound but modular" and that seems intriguing. but lord knows how much those cost

or i guess not in the same same scale but my point is, not like pressing a chord and waggling the pbend, but each chord element slides to the other chord element.... interpolating between two chords.

this, again, sounds like a job for a modular with some characteristic 3-pole filteringz
but, also, this is the point where we should discuss the best software 303 sounds, because most don't have the means to build a modular like that. i certainly don't
for my tracker stuff, i'm actually using a 303 sample kit and it's obviously not very flexible but the right frequencies are present if used carefully
i heard vibert's formula was "record a real 303 in 8-bar loops and then collage it in reason"

chords on a 303(s) sound rubbish anyway, i don't know what i'm on about
(lol chords on a mono) i'd much rather have everything tweakable than a sampled instrument, any day but thats just me (but i don't make tracks)

>>>i heard vibert's formula was "record a real 303 in 8-bar >>> loops and then collage it in reason" With vibert, as with aphex, i think there is so much going on that is not commincable at all, that telling people what software was used is basically useless. It's like saying that fucking Hendrix used a guitar.... m8 do you expect to pick one up and make tunes like him?
I love the idea of practicing something endlessly until until it becomes something.

it was actually a very through dump of his whole process: "i used to do everything with an atari ST and a sampler, the drive died and loads of samples are gone forever, then i switched to reason"
and from there a lot of it is actually very specific, like how he uses some bassline patch "moog2" on half his songs. how he'll make all the noises and melodies and save it to a folder "done" before unrolling it all into a song at some later point. so, yeah, most of it is about process, but some of it is quite specific to reason
w/rt to 303, that 8-bar thing was his answer to how to sample 303 without it sounding lifeless, and how he actually does the 303 in his tracks.
